The deer are still in the area but staying in the bottoms and only moving at night.

Just got in from Borden Cnty and 3 days no deer. Saw 3 yotes feeding on a dead cow, pics of hogs at midnight. Zero, zilch during the day. Place joining us has a large wheat field and one of our hunters counted over 20 on the wheat. No cows in that patch.

same thing in Clay county. I saw one small buck yesterday and that was a fluke while headed back to camp on the 4 wheeler. Alot of days I walked to the blind or ridge I was goign to hunt and still have not seen anything. Somewhere there are a lot of deer together having a party. When I looked at this lease I was drooling over the fact it had 100 acres of wheat on it. Have not seen one deer on the wheat. The deer are still coming to the feeders but only at night. I was thinking of looking for another lease but from what I am reading on here everyone is having the same problems. We do not have one oak tree on our place. Hopefully the last weekend of youth season will be productive.

same thing here in colorado county.... i have posted about this before... i was seeing a TON of bucks in october after only feeding for 2 weeks. I passed on a nice 8 point on opening day thinking i would easily see a bigger one as i had seen on my trail cams. WRONG, i have not seen one buck while hunting since that day. The only deer comming to the feeders are coming at night. Next year i am getting into bow hunting....

Hunted our wheat fields in Throckmorton County the last 2 days and FINALLY the deer are hitting the wheat! Too late for me, but the youngest 2 boys have 2 more weeks. Hopefully they can see a shooter.
I wouldn't judge a new lease by how the season went this year. This year has been totally out of character, and I got a Matthews Z7 for Christmas and I will be ready come bow season next year!!

We can't blame the acorn crop as we have no oaks in the area, we can possibly blame dry watering holes, an extremely dry fall and the fact that on the lease adjoining us (near the area I hunt) they found a lion kill weekend before last. They said it was a small 8 pt partially eaten and lion tracks in the immediate area. This is very near where my wife and I saw the lion last year. The rancher had several of his horses ran through a fence and he assumed it was a lion? This is in Borden county and there have been numerous reports of lions but I still think it is related to the drought we are having, because we saw lots of deer last year with the lion in this general area. Don't know. I guess we will find out next season. Had lots of pics of deer (bucks and does) early in the season but none after the first part of Dec.

Come up to Ohio, that seems to be the place most are heading for bucks this year. World Class Whitetails of Ohio has had tons of hunters up from Texas for some reason. I know the pics on their site says it all. www.bestdeerhuntohio.com

On our lease in young co we have corn darn near ankle deep under our feeders. I put that on account that there were a lot of acorns this year but I sat in a blind that had a view of a neighbor's feeder (over 400 yards away) and saw more then 10 deer under their feeder multiple days in a row. So I don't know what they are feeding but it must be better then what we are feedeing, kind of dishearting.

Tyler Co. Hardwood bottoms with cypress breaks (water and browse) planted oats that made, feeders, corned roads, not a single deer seen since Thanksgiving (16 hunts) Frustrated as hell!

This year has been strange for me!!! I went to Western New York for bow season and had a doe run up to the road about 10yds from me and looked both ways before trotting across the road,( I swear she winked at me)!!! I got home and hunted the gun season in Tyler County and just about every hunt had a 2.5 yr old buck come out 5yds from me look at me and smile and headed to the feeder 22yds from the stand!!! One evening I had to go to a meeting so I banged my ring against the stand and thought he'd gone but when I climbed out of the stand and started to walk away he trotted off only to be back the next morning!!! He knows that he can't be shot!!! I shot a spike with him about 8 yds from me and he jumped over the dead spike and I caught him on camera 4 hours later and saw him the next morning walking the same routine!!! For some reason, I think the deer are just getting smarter!!! The only does I've seen came the day after the end of doe season!!! STRANGE!!!
