Got a little Christmas money and plan on getting Suede an E-Collar. I know everyone is going to have a different opinion but what do yall suggest. Obviously SportDog is the cheapest and I have heard it took them a while but have fixed most bugs in their units. What do yall think?

I've used tritronis for years and had zero issues, so I guess I'd have to recomend them. For technology and dependability their hard to beat.........

I'm assuming since you have had no problems you don't know how well their customer service is? That is going to be big with me.

I have 2 sets of collars from tritronics. I have had very few problems with them, but when ever I have called them they have been very helpful. I have had DT, Innotek and sportdogs but none have held up as well as the tritronics.

I've had 2 DT and 2 Tritronics sets thru the years. Tritronics wins my vote for durability as well as customer service. I will not say there is nothing else out there as good, but you won't find any better.

I only use Tri-tronics. I use them on a daily basis and have very little issues with them. I have had excellent customer service with them and like them so much, I became a dealer. They are hard to beat.

Dogtra or Tri-Tronics are the best out there bar none. I started out with a Sportdog, didn't like it and returned it for a Tri-Tronics. Used the TT for years until it needed a refurb. I came across a great deal on a Dogtra and bought it. I like both of them however I wish I could combine the features of both brands - then I'd have the best collar ever made.

I have a Sportdog that's a year old.
I didn't have any problems with it but when I was going to have to buy more collars( more dogs) I went with Tri-Tronics.
I like the collars Tri-Tronics better.

About a year ago I posed this same question...it was overwhelmingly TT but Dogtra seemed to be a close 2nd. Combining this and another board.

I ended up with the TT Sport Combo G3.

Edit - be sure and check out this place if you aren't using gift cards because you can save some money, especially if you go the reconditioned route http://www.collarclinic.com/

Thanks Judd I checked that out a while back but will look it over again. I talked to Pat from Ridgewood Kennels and he suggested Dogtra because his Tri-Tronics unit had the on off switch in a place that would easily get switched to off while working his dogs. The Dogtra collar he showed me you had to touch the remote and collar and hold a button on the remote to turn it on so there was pretty much no way for it to accidentally turn off.

i sure dont see how the dog can turn off the collar. i apparantly have an issue with mine not working at long distance.
and some people say the same thing that it turns off. i dont agree. why would it only turn off when used long distance ( but still well within range) always works fine in close.

He showed me the on off switch and it does seem like it could get bumped while training.

Has anyone bought a reconditioned one and had any problems, just worried after a year something could happen then I'm out 300 bucks, where if I buy a new one I could have a longer warranty.

I have bought some TT electronics for remote launchers from there and everything worked great and it looked brand new. I think they may come with a warranty as well.

I've had sportdog and tritronics collars and i like the tritronics better. I'm running the trashbreaker. The sportdog was a decent setup but it's just not as durable as i want for hunting hogs. That rinky dink collar on the sportdog I have just doesn't do it for me. It's been getting used for around the house training and the trashbreaker gets used for actual hunting. the tritronics stuff holds up better.

Regardless of what brand, a feature you might consider if you ever want to run two or more dogs off the same xmitter is separate buttons for each dog rather than a toggle switch. Unless you are smarter than I am, you are going to forget to move that darned switch and bump the wrong dog.
I think, but am not sure, that the only one Tritronics is currently making that meets my requirement is the basic classic70 G3 EXP. Three separate buttons, and a toggle switch so you could run up to 6 dogs.

I have used DT Systems for close to 20 years with no problems. Great customer service & they are in Dallas so if I notice a dead battery, missing antenna, etc. the day before we are going hunting, I can just run to their office & pick one up. you wont hear any pro's talking them up because they don't sponsor but I like them, I have not had to shock one of my dogs in a long time, they respond to the vibrate, that I love. We now have two of the 1822 H20 two dog units with vibrate.

DT Systems is excellent, I know a trainer/guide that swears by them. Having them in Dallas is a big plus, if you need them suddenly. I use Tritronics, always worked great for me. I think these days it's all pretty much good equipment.
