I graduated from A&M on Friday and then it was 5 days and counting of nothing but duck hunting.

The first day we stayed around home and hunted one of our local spots.

We finished with 20 w/ a mix of your typical central texas ducks and some good looking BWT.

Day 2: Only finished with a pair of woodies but there were a ton of wood ducks roosting there and they didnt get spooked so we will hunt it as a roost in the near future.

Day 3: My brother and I loaded the truck and went to Brownwood to hunt a buddies lake that we had never seen but heard it had tons of ducks. We both really wanted to kill a pintail since we don't get to many around here and when we scouted it the lake was loaded with them.

Pic of the spot

Not only did we get our pintails but we got a big bonus cinnamon teal which will probably go on the wall along with my first pintail. Too bad I didn't kill both but very glad to get a cinnamon teal. Finished one short of our limit but it took 15 minutes to kill 11 ducks and we planned on hunting that spot again the next day, so we picked up.

Day 4: We headed back to the same spot but a little further down the bank. We took our buddy Torian who had never been duck hunting and he had a blast. I am pretty sure he is hooked.

Finished w/ 16 in an hour and had to hit the road.

Day 5: Went to a new spot back home that looked awesome but this little front blew in right at LST and we didn't see much. Finished w/ 3 greenheads and a wood duck.

Pic of the spot

We did get to try out the new bird dog. He did good but doesn't listen to well.

Seriously though that spot had a about six inches of water and you would sink above your waders in mud. I have never seen anything like it and we threw the decoys out thinking nothing of it and couldn't get them back. The youngest got voted to do the hard work but we have all done it, but I don't think it was ever that bad

Going at them in the a.m. again and hopefully get some more nice hunts in.

Eric

I'm with nogeese on that one...I'd buy a whole new set of decoys before I would strip down and get in the water this time of year.

There was no way we were going to leave that stuff out there. There was over $200 in decoys and thats alot of money to poor folks. Plus around here we are a little tougher than most. wink

We did think he had a leach on him at one point and were worried for about one second but it was a leaf so no harm.
