Trying to decide on the new rifle and have it narrowed down to these three. I'm planning on a new winchester extreme weather ss in one of these three calibers.

Lets here y'alls opinions, pros and cons

Mainly used for deer and pigs

Thanks guys

That will be a nice rifle no matter what caliber you get in it..I personally would look at the 300wsm..It's a great all around cartridge, suitable for any size game with less felt recoil than the 30-06 and 300wm

7mag would be my choice. 300wsm if wanting the shorter action.

none are a bad choice.

I own a 7mm rem mag and and 30-06, I've also owned two 300 win mags.

I love a 300 win mag, I want another really bad. I also love my 7mm Rem mag. This is my first year hunting with it and I've killed 4 animals with it.

But I've got a sweet spot for a 30-06. I look at a 30-06 like I do a loyal bird dog. Always does the job, not as good or as fast as some of the younger ones, but still gets the job done none-the-less.

What calibers have you shot before? How much do you intend to shoot this one? Reload? For many shooters who don't do a lot of shooting, and don't reload, the .30-06 would be the best choice. I have owned all three and still have the '06 and the .300. The 7 mag is a good round, but just didn't do any more for me than I could get with other rounds. JMO

I have shot many calibers ranging from a .222, .223, 22-250, 243, 25-06, .270, 270 wsm, 30-30, 30-06, 7mm mag, .308, 7.62x39, 338 rum, .44 mag, 45-70
These are the ones i can think of, i have owned just a couple of these
I dont handload but i would love to get into it, and probably will in the next year
This gun will be shot fairly often, but *NOT* nearly enough to burn a barrel

Oops, just noticed what I said sorry

I have all 3 My "06 is my first choice have shot and owned it since 1982, the 300 is my second and back up gun if I head to far west texas or out of state. The 7mm is my last choice, this is only because I prefer the 30 cals. As far as the WSM is concerned IMO there are alot of mom and pop stores that do not carry the ammo if you get in a bind. Again just M O. I have worked up 3 lethal loades for my "06 and will stick to them. To me if you shoot alot or just want to finad a load your rifle likes then reloading is the way to go that way you can fine tune your weapon with the ammo of choice.

If you have not shot any of the calibers that you mentioned you might want to find someone that would let you shoot there rifle so you will know what the recoil is like. See if Wiley's has one you can shoot.

I'd say go with the 30-06, but I'm biased. Been shooting one since I was about 14 and have tried other calibers but keep coming back to the 30-06.

Well I'm leaning heavily on the 300 win mag, due to its extra "ummphh"

But i have heard from some that the 300 tears up alot of meat, but is it really a noticable amount from the 06

Not really concerned with recoil, if we were talkin 20lbs energy difference then it might be a concern, but i consider all of these to be manageable

I consider the 7mm Remington Mag one of the "Perfect" North American ctgs. No need for anything else. I sure don't want ANYTHING with WSM tied to it.

My Browning 300 mag is more of a push, the 7mm is more of kick. But I also have a McMillian stock on the 7mm which is lighter, which is why I think it kick more, but thats IMO.

If you expect some longer, 3-400 yards+, the 7 or 300 mag. will be a bit flatter than an ought six.

If recoil is a consideration the '06 will have a little less than the 7 mag. depending on the bullet weight you choose & the 300 is a fair step up in recoil.

Any one you listed will be a fine choice, as the new South Carolina made Winchesters have been some great rifles from what I've seen. A hunting pard has one of the 30-06 EW & it is a really great shooting rig. Get it properly bedded for the best accuracy potential like any other rifle though. It really does make a difference.

why a mag 06 what you trying to shoot. 7mm'08 will do anything you want. 100 to 160 gr bullets if your doing elk or bigger 300win or wsm don't get a light magnum/ they only good to tote, they, none of the light guns shoot with the exception of the kimber montana 84,
