Hunted with my fourteen year old this weekend. He made a pefect shot on a nice eight point buck on Saturday morning. We were both elated. It's the first non cull buck that he has killed. We went out Saturday afternoon and as we were walking to the blind, we see about twenty deer already at the feeder. We were three hundred yards short of the blind and couldn't get into the blind without being busted. So we dropped down into a dry creek bed and kept out of sight and got as close to the blind as we could. We crawled on hands and knees until we could see the feeder. I told him to rest the rifle across my pack and take the shot laying prone. The deer had no clue that we were there. He shoots, and misses a doe. First one that he has missed since he started hunting. The deer run off and we got in the blind to see if we might see more. Just about sundown, a doe walks out and he takes another shot. Well, this time he connects, but the does runs off and out of sight. I tell him to wait in the blind and I will find her. I walk to where she had been and find very little blood. I also find a small piece of meat. By now it's dark. I use my flashlight and start blood trailing. The blood would only be in places about ten to fifteen yards apart. The cover is incredibly thick and part of the time I had to crawl under it. I spent a lot of time backtracking. To make a long story short I finally found her and finished her off. The shot had gone low through both legd and split her open at the brisket. She would have died for sure but it would have been an agonizing death. It never ceases to amaze me how tough these animals can be. I am very thankful that we recovered her and put her out of her misery.

Way to stay in there and recover your game.
