HEB sale on butts continues, but they've added pork picnic too. Both are shoulder cuts. Anyone have an opinion regarding one vs. the other?

I prefer the butt. I've bought a few smoked or cured picnics, and they were not a meaty as the butts.

Thanks for the input. Butts are the cut I've always used and I'll stick with 'em...

Picnics have a lot more bone than butts do.

I've cooked both many times. If your doing pulled pork, I usually go with whichever is the cheapest.

Depends on what you are dooing. We buy them when we can find them cheap to mix with deer to add some fat, if that is what you are doing then I would use whatever was cheepest.

I use pork butts for sausage, roast, boudin, etc. I've never used the picnics. But since they were priced the same I was wondering what others though. I'm sticking with the butts.

Usually you can find the Pork Butt for $.79 to $.99 lb if you watch the adds . We also use it along with some extra fat for deer and elk sausage .
