It is not recomended, especially on a spring powered pellet gun.
The vibrations created by the spring are said to be tough on scopes.

Buy the scopes that are made for pellet guns, as mentioned above tue vibrations will ruin a normal scope.

As said above normal rifle scopes will be ruined in most cases because most air rifles have a reverse recoil. They make scopes specifically for them. I have a scope on my gamo and it is super accurate and I have put over 1000 pellets thru it

Can this be done? Has anyone done it? Yes it can, done all the time. You need close parallex focus capability and a tough scope. What rifle are you shooting and how much are you willing to spend? David

CrossPoint scopes are designed for pellet guns and are pretty nice for the money. You can pick one up at Walmart

I've never had a rifle scope fail me on an air rifle. I don't use junk either. I've got a Nikon prostaff 4x thats been zeroed for eight years.
If that reverse recoil theory were real then a scope on your centerfire could give out by simply riding around in your vehicle...Nonsense!

how is the vibrations worse than a rifle....i don't get it.
and a rifle riding around in between the seat of a truck is subject to almost continuous vibrations
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

how is the vibrations worse than a rifle....i don't get it.
and a rifle riding around in between the seat of a truck is subject to almost continuous vibrations Don't understand all of it, has to do w/ the way the piston drives the pellet out. Spring air guns don't use a large compressed air charge to propel the pellet out the end of the barrel. Their is a powerful spring that is attached to a piston. The spring/piston are cocked and then released when fired. The only air that is compressed is the little bit that the piston uses to push the pellet out the end of the barrel. When the piston reaches the end of the stroke it rebounds causing the reverse recoil. With all due respect to Robert Beeman, a great salesman and more than any other the guy that brought european style airguns to America, the recoil of most spring guns is not particularly severe. Will it trash scopes designed for a rifle? Absolutely if your talking about the $30 variant that you might normally purchase at Walmart for a .22. Likewise the discount "big game" scope that can be purchased for about the same price. Any decent name brand scope (Bushnell higher end stuff, Nikon, Leupold, Weaver, etc.) will hold up fine on most air rifles, however, most are parallexed for 100 yards. Precision counts w/ airgunning - you are dealing w/ a small fraction of the power of a .22 short, so having the parallex be off enough to make you miss your shot by 3/8" is a big deal. For that reason, airgunners tend to gravitate to scopes that can be parallexed down to 10 yards. A good example of this type of scope found on an airgun would be a Bushnell legend 5x15x40. Realitively inexpensive, held up well on most springer type airguns. The old Simmons 44mags were also well thought of. When you start really trying to crank the power up in a springer style airgun, they start becoming exponentially more destructive. Guns like the Webley Patriot and RWS 48 & 52, weirauch 80 & 90 require something a bit more ruggedly built - in this category, the Bushnell elites are favorites - not because they are more rugged than comparable Nikons, Leupolds, etc - it's just that they are rugged AND have many models that will parallex down to 10yards. Finally there are springer airguns like the Diana(RWS) 54 - it is a semi-recoiless design. It shoots like a dream, unfortunately, the recoiless design is achieved via a sliding sled that the barrel/receiver assembly rides on when the shot is fired. Pretty much any high end scope that is heavy will be trashed on this rifle - many owners use the Leupold 3-9x33 because the lighter weight seems to help the scopes live longer on this rifle. HTH's, not really a springer expert, quit shooting them years ago, all the air rifles I have now are PCP's. David

Had one on a benjamin pump and it worked great. Benjamin is pneumatic (compressed air), rather than spring-pushed, and doesn't generate the same kind of movement (no perceivable recoil at all, as a matter of fact).

Just joined this forum this morning. I do, however, frequent "Texas Fishing Forum". I had no idea until a couple of years ago, that airgunning had become so sophisticated and popular as it is. Certainly not new to gunning, I have owned many and still have my Daisy pump (circa 1959). I bought a .177 Beeman P1 springer summer before last and use a BSA Red Dot on it. I do know that many scope them and there is quite a lot of discussion about quickly destroying a scope on an air gun if it is not properly designed. Mrs Santa Claus has a new Weirhauch 80 wrapped up for me scoped with a Hawke 12x40 designed for an airgun. I'd certainly like to find air gunning enthusiasm in this area as I know full well its a great sport indoors and out.

Nothing like an airgun for a little trigger time when you want to shoot but do not have time for the range, plus they are just fun and ammo doesn't cost an arm and leg.
