I picked up a 1968 belgium browning a5 in very nice condition it is the magnum version. Only problem is the guy had a gunsmith cut off the barrel 2 inches and had it threaded for chokes. Anyone have any idea of value? Thx, mike

I know that having the chokes added was a popular upgrade for these guns as it made it a better all around gun, mine still retains the unharmed factory barrell and is in about 90% condition, good blueing with very minor surface scratches on the forestock, that being said I was offered $850 for it last year at the Mesquite gunshow, I wasn't looking go sell just looking for a better buttstock so I didn't sell it. Hope this helps

You shouldn't have to cut two inches off of the barrel to add a choke system.
It all depends...
A 98% (wood and blue), vent rib, 1968 A-5 Mag should run around $900-$1,000. The flat knob is the major detractor.
The value of a reconditioned and modernized 1968 A-5 Mag would depend upon the person's desire to shoot an updated A-5. Having a steel safe Briley choke system added to an A-5 would run you $210 plus tax and transport. Could be worth anywhere from $450-$750. It all depends, but it's probably on the lower end of that range.
I've passed up more than a few Invector choked, round knob, A-5 Mags at gun shows in the $500-$700 range in 95-98% condition. (I still kick myself over a few.)
I've never paid more than $550 for a reworked A-5.
I have "a couple".

I have kicked myself for passing up on a few good ones. What I call good ones is with the original barrel that hasn't been cut and the finish, stock is in pretty good shape.I'm always looking and one day I hope one will come along.
