This system is very simple, its a baby monitor thats spliced to accept a 12 volt battery. Then the handheld part of the unit (speaker) goes with me to the stand or stays on all night in my cabin. The range on a good baby monitor is about 100 yards even through some trees. We turn it on before we got to bed, wakeup to LOUD corn crunching. Sneak out and blast away. Its ultra sensitive and works like a charm. Even walking near the monitor is loud on the speaker end. Battery last forever on the unit. I once had it on constantly for 6 days and it still had juice. I wired a switch onto my ammo can so that I can arm the system quickly and quietly.

I just mounted a motion sensor light to a telephone pole about 75 yards from the house last night. Have my game camera setup there and i am baiting coyotes there. Ran a wire back into the living room from the pole, and plugged a lamp into it. when the lamp is light up, i have movement at the telephone pole. I'm thinking about plugging an alarm clock in instead of the lamp, so when it goes off i can hear the buzzer if i'm sleeping. Gonna get some pictures in the next day or so. The bulbs on the motion sensor light come on real slow and are red so they shouldn't scare the yotes.

I've thought about the same thing but with one of those motion sensors that has a box that chimes in your house when it detects movement outside.
Great idea, I'm a big fan of the homebrew stuff!

More of my buddies idea than mine. He doesn't like to sit out in the cold and hunt. I'm looking for some good results from it though. I can step out the front door, lean my gun on a temporary rest we set up and blast away without scaring them. We'll see how it works. Like your idea also...

I mounted a motion detector flood light on a rubbermaid box, put green lights in and installed a battery inside the box with an invertor and set it up on the feeder when we go hunting at night. works well...LOL love reading about new ideas....

I used a driveway alert system from Harbor Freight. They are about $15 bucks and are a wireless motion detector. Just set the detector pointing at your bait and the receiver chimes when something is moving at the detector. I also used it a few years ago when I was having problems with raccoons coming into my shop through the dog door to get at the cat food. I set the detector next to the cat food bowl. When it went off, I would go out and bang on the door of the shop. When a raccoon came running out of the dog door, I would swat him with a 12ga. Now that I actually have a dog out there and not just a cat, I have no more raccoon issues.

I have never tried it but you guys got me to thinking. For a one night hunt couldn't you tape the mic open on a walkie and put it near the baited area and just have an open mic for as long as the batteries will last?
Range would of course be dependant on terrain and model of walkie....
Anybody done that before?

Anybody done that before? Very simple...range could be up to a mile or better depending on terrain.... batteries would last 6-8 hrs...I like it!!!!

Anybody done that before? Very good idea. That would increase the range over most of the options used here.

Cool idea, but whatever happened to the notion of hunting?
God is great, deer is good and wild hogs are crazy.

Cool idea, but whatever happened to the notion of hunting? We do hunt, spot and stalk, over bait, any other means necessary. But this is a good tool for the feeder next to camp. Guess you hate the helicopter hunts too huh?

most walkie talkies have VOX, " voice activation" all you have to do is put it on vox and put the radio near the feeder, you could hunt anothet location and hear whats going on at another feeder, hogs are plenty noisy to activate the VOX, plus you would get more range
