I had no idea that some of the ducks i've been slaying could possibly be older than I am. Her are some record ages.
The record ages for some duck species may surprise you.
Canvasback, 29 years, 6 months Black duck, 26 years, 5 months Mallard 26 years, 4 months Blue-winged teal, 23 years, 3 months Redhead, 22 years, 7 months Wood duck, 22 years, 6 months Northern pintail, 22 years, 3 months American wigeon, 20 years, 11 months Ring-necked duck, 20 years, 5 months Green-winged teal, 20 years, 3 months

those stats. are from people buying old bands on e-bay and then calling in and saying they shot the bird..... I kind of though that too. Either that or people didn't call them in until years after they shot them but I was just sharing, everyone can have there own opinion.

buddy shot a snow goose in Corpus that was 20 years old... Did he? or did he buy old bands on e-bay and then calling in and saying they shot the bird.....

Why when someone gets on this forum and post something they find interesting someone else has to go here and say nope can't possibly be true and post their guess at it and think they are bar-none 100% correct??

The ducks on this list must be in captivity... Fed well without the stress of migration. I doubt very seriously that any "wild" duck could make it through more than three years.

had several hunters shoot banded birds, (or claim mine ) the ONLY one I ever kept and sent in was a snow goose that was 9 years old. I would agree that the list must be the TRUE lucky ducks!
