Anyone ever had a hog come after them? I walked up on a hog on the way to my blind yesterday and it didn't like me for some reason. First shot missed but gave me a little head start run back to the truck. Luckily I was only about 40 yards from the truck. Hadn't run that fast in awhile. Anyone know reason for that ?

Probably startled it and then it just ran and it happened to be your way, although I would not take any chances that they would not delight in chasing you. I have a solution to the chasing me problem.

Chase it back

I've had a couple of problems with pigs but it was only when piglets were around. Had a boar and a sow chase me back into the stand one afternoon. Had to call the wife to come get me and take me to my truck. I tried throwing rocks and couldn't run them off. I could have shot one but it would have been a hip shot, it was too dark to see thru the scope.

don't know that I would have admitted that... man card in jeopardy.

I was chased by a couple of hogs at a local bar once. It was scary.

Not worried about Man Card. I saw what a big boar done to my neighbor several years ago. Guy ALMOST lost his leg due to infection.

I thought one was chasing me once, but it literally just hauled right by me. I was running and it was faster. It just slowly pulled away from me like we were both running from the same thing.

Didn't know what else to do, there were about 20 of them and I had to walk right thru them to get to the truck. I guess I could have fired a shot in there direction to see if that would run them off but I have a couple of good bucks that were in the woods about 150 yards away and really didn't want to shoot.

if it happens again remember what they tell you to do for a grizzly bear attack.....lay there and play dead.

Same here...only when piglets were around but I did shoot from the hip and nailed her as she was turning around for a 2nd pass.

I haven't been chased because I stood my ground, but I had shot at a big sow with a bunch of little ones which I didn't see until I missed her and she turned and started running straight at me. With only three more rounds in the winchester, I shot at her two more times and missed and she kept coming, and I finally dropped her about ten yards in front of me with the last round.

Had I missed that last shot I don't know what would have happened as I hadn't given that much thought since I was busy trying to stop her before I ran out of ammo.

This is the reason why I carry a sidearm when i'm in pig country. The chances of one them charging is slim but you never know.

Yea that's a good idea. Ever since I had my run in with one. I carry mine too.

I have no idea where it went after I got in the truck, I was too busy trying to get away. All I could think about was that thing grabbin my leg. Wish I had a video of it, probably win some money for it.
