I am hunting in lee county this week and don't know if I should try rattling in a buck or not. Nothing is coming to feeders with all these acorns on the ground, not even pigs.

I've had mixed success with rattling in late rut. When it works it works well. It certainly won't spook them, but they might not be interested especially if bucks are still holed up with any remaining unbred does. Try rattling sequence for 30 min, if no response, you might try other tactics.

I will give it a try. Never have done it, always worried I would do more harm than good. This is my first year to hunt Lee county for deer and its completely different from Menard county where I have hunted for years and still do. I have seen a couple nice bucks here in Lee county, better bucks than I have ever seen in Menard.
I think I have a chance at getting something nice here but I won't be surrounded by deer like in Menard. Just trying to figure out how to get on one. I will try rattling tomorrow and let yall know how it goes.

Thanks for the input.

I rattled yesterday afternoon. Had some come through. None charged in so it's hard to say if it was the rattle or not. I watched one about 80 yards out and it did not bother him as I rattled.

We have property in the Lincoln area. Still lots of acorns. Not much activity at the feeders. Rattling last year worked OK, but haven't done much this year. FWIW, rattling in the AM was the only time I could get them to come in, but it was usually just the youngsters.

But the bucks just started chasing does out in my area last week, so im sure it would work better now, but i wont be able to hunt until after christmas, and then it is dove season....

I think lots of folks mistake the "RUT" for horny bucks knowing the doe are getting close to ready.

The mature buck I am after was sure as he'll chasing 2 days ago.
