Well I had purchased my first ever Rem 700 SPS in 308. This was to be my "baby". it all started after unpacking and inspection, I found a Divit near the crown of the barrel. SO I call rem cust svc and they say ,blah, blah and take it to a local guy, so more time spent only to find out it was not on the crown but is a defect. fast forward to the Xmark pro trigger, I attempt to adjust down but to no sucess, so call rem cust svc back and you guessed it, blah, blah so the guy tells me they have had problems witthe trigger not adjusting at all, so I ask...can I put a timney on, sure he says. So install a nice new crisp 2# timney and added a HS Prescision Police sniper stock to boot...oh wait there is a small issue of the glass, for this I had saved for a Leuopold VX3 4.5 x14x50 and with after trial and error used Burris Sig rings and bases.
So out to the range, I am EXCITED, went thru about 20 breakin shots with 150 gr core locts, then switched to Gold Match 168 SBTHP, fire the first shot and I cannot get the bolt to pull back, after some frustration and investigation, we found that inside the throat that there are some burrs that were there from the factory thus causing the spent cases to stick.
SO here is the rest of the story, I call remington to voice my concerns about there lack of quality control and to get the burrs taken care of....but wait there is another problem...you Sir voided ALL warranty the minute you touched the screws on that rifle.....GO FIGURE.....NO KIDDING...RIGHT....hence my frustration of having to put more money into a brand new rifle.

On the up side I did shoot a 3 shot group with the gold match and was getting cloverleafs, the guy next to me who had more money in just one of his rifles than I have in Several turned and said "son do you want to sell that gun right now" I did not know whether to laugh or cry............ I will get some sand cloth and a wood dowel and do my own quality control...and I wil NEVER buy another bolt action with out checking all up in its orifices (all of them) ever again........Lesson Learned...and a laugh for all those THF'ers

SPS isn't known for having the best quality... I don't like them, but that's because they caused the XCR to get discontinued.

Yep i recently posted about the ranch hand at the place I hunt buying a brand new 700 in 300win

got a scope mounted on it and took it to the range fired one shot and could barley get the case out shot a second one and the bolt would not open.

took it back to the store he got it and the guy gets the old casing out and puts a live 300win round in the chamber just to see if it fits tight. Puts it on safty and closes the bolt....BOOM!

blows a hole through the roof of the shop.

I own a remington 700 sendero thats 10+ years old and I think it will be the last one I own but i love it.

Sorry to hear about the problems you are having with Remington. The last new Remingtom I have bought was several years ago, I do not plan on any more new Remington products. When a company gets into many other products like Remington has too often it seems the quality of what built the company goes down.

These days I like the ones that guarantee accuracy and come with a test target, Weatherby, Tikka, TC...

Remington claims of "the best made most accurate rifles" might have more creedence with me if they did the same, back it up in writing, and example of accuracy. I know they produce some very accurate rifles but some are not, or in the case of this OP a mixture of both accuracy and poor quality control.

lf the saying "Liar, Liar your pants on fire" were true
Mainstream news might be fun to watch

It is frustrating especially when the problem is evident and Customer Service is not up to par, in this case I will have to say Remington has the facts stacked against them but refuse to take care of the customer. I hate that this is like this however I have not had this many problems since Ruger was subing their barrels out and suffered greatly because of it...I will not ever even pick up a ruger to this day because of that experience and denial. Remington goes on the list..........The Good One Isn't Cheap and The Cheap One Isn't Good......

I had a similar experience with a 700 ADL in 243 years ago. Rem Cust/Svc was a joke so I soon owned a Tikka and never looked back.
Good Luck.

Sorry to hear it. Nothing sucks more than to have to put more money into something that shouldn't require another cent. That's why I buy Savage

And after all that your rifle shot holes touching. Not sure if this thread is supposed to bash remmy or praise them.

Is it burrs in the chamber? OR is it tooling chatter? If it's burrs it will just take some time to sand out. If it's tooling chatter you might as well trash it and go buy something better.

It doesn't sound like the crown is to screwed up with those groups. Also you never mentioned cleaning it before use.
Good or bad I think everyone is on the Remington hate bandwagon right now from the press. Its a shame

I just have an issue with this discontinuing their great products to produce more of their cheapo mess (b/c obviously if 2 rifles look similar, folks will buy the one that is $200 cheaper)..... it's such a savage move.

A savage move... more of the companies need to make savage moves.

There is not a more relaible or accurate out of the box production rifle made today.... Savage.

I guess I just got lucky. Bought a Remmy 700 ADL in 30.06 in the early 90's and haven't had a bit of trouble out of it. Groups well too.

have had 10 returned to factory within the last 2 months for defects (most have been the Savage Edge)...one of their bench rifles in 6.5x284 Norma even...it was a muzzleloader with no barrel rifling. Not sure how that can even happen.

Not doubting you but I love my Savage Axis, great gun and I'm getting great groups with it.

not disputing they can make some great rifles, but they are fixated on cheap. I'm not saying Remmy doesn't have their problems, but you see a lot of theirs on their cheaper lines of rifles. I can think of 5 SPS that have been sent back and a cpl ADLs recently.

Never found out they sent it back to remington after the hole got blown in the roof

Oh and it was an XHR wich is a $900 rifle, so it wasnt the bottom of the line

Savage reminds me of the guy that puts $4000 wheels on a Kia.

That was then and this is now. I guess the answer for those who want a nice 700 is to go CDL or buy a used one from the '80s or '90s. Meanwhile the new Winchester Model 70s seem to be outstanding.
