Hunted several places this year in both Texas and Oklahoma and have been fortunate enough to take 3 bucks and a number of doe and a recent post about deer processing has me curious.

What is the FULL weight(undressed just as it fell), of the deer you have taken or ones that have been weighed where you hunt?

shot an 8point in Brownwood that weighed 205LBS

10point in Oklahoma that weighed 210lbs

shot several doe in oklahoma ranging from 100-134lbs

What is the average weight of the bucks and doe you have seen weighed and where were they taken? Also mention if they are on corn, protein, food plots, or all the above and Highfence

This isnt ment as a contest for heviest deer just looking to see the difference of body size from place to place

Our Sutton county bucks are about 180 lbs. at maturity and the does are right around the 100 lbs. mark. Here in East Texas, the bucks are about the same but the mature does here average around 115 lbs. We feed corn and protein all year and also do Spring and Fall food plots.

I have shot whitetail that would have been lucky to go 100lbs and mule deer that weighed over 300lbs. On average I would say that most of the bucks I kill here in Montana, both mule deer and whitetail average between 180-225lbs with a large buck weighing in at 250+. The only buck I have ever cared to weigh was an old mule deer buck I shot in my back field 8 seasons ago. That buck's dressed weight was 305lbs on a certified cattle scale and that was after he had hung in my barn for three days. I figure that he weighed about 350lbs on the hoof. I would say that the further north you go the heavier the deer are on average. It is not uncommon for whitetails to reach 300+lbs in parts of Canada or northern USA.

The question was average weight, not exceptions. All of the times that I have been to the processors in all parts of Texas that I have hunted I don't see deer as big as what is being posted here.

Average weight from this year is 160 on our bucks. Doe weight is 130 if mature. These are live weight numbers FYI.

This is coming from a lease located in Shackleford county.

we keep records for mld and most does will weigh 90 to 110 lbs live weight and most bucks will be between 115 and 150lbs live weight on our place so far.

we have seen a few outliers, but that is closer to the average you asked about.

we are in the hill country under high fence, some protein and year round corn.

Stuff my dad said in the deer blind

"did you do that?"

Never weighed them as live weight until last year.

On our place in duval co we shot two average live weight of mature doe is 100 lbs, 80lbs dressed. We havent shot any bucks yet.

The place we hunted in the hilcountry was a different story. When we started hunting there the deer numbers were way out of control, average doe dressed 55 to 60 lbs and buck 85 to 90. For about 5 years we took heavy doe harvest to get population down, and after that our average buck dressed 100 to 105 and does 60 to 70. I think it hurt the place and deer that it was heavily grazed by cattle and goats.

one exception was a doe my buddy shot last yr in Tyler Co...(still not sure why he did it) @ 5.5 the doe went 182LW, the year before I shot what the club considered a 3.5yr old cull that weighed in a 186lbs. So far of bucks I'm aware of killed on a place not far from Sam Rayburn Res., one went 185, the other went 206....toward the end of season would be a different story on those deers' weights.

Have a few like this one that will go over 200, but the average is closer to 180. Rolling Plains a little SE of Snyder.

Thank you, those look like very realistic numbers.

avg I'm giving comes from 5.5+ yr olds....the ones that top out around 160 get offset by the 200lb deer...most are right around the avg though @ 180.... our does are chunks as well.

.5yr old

1.5yr old

2.5 yr old that's going to me more of the longer, leaner, lighter deer.

3.5 yr old should be on his way above avg

4.5 yr old...should be around 175ish this year @ 5.5

5.5 same deer as above, no prerut swelling going on yet

5.5....above avg

5.5....above avg

norm on the does

average doe weight is 115 (range 95 to 145)

average buck weight is around 190 (range 160 to 235)

we weigh every single deer as soon as it's in from the field. This is in Mcmullen county.
