its a toss between rem.700 classic 6.5-55 or ruger mkll 25-06. when i was gunsmithing full time my uncle drove me crazy talkin about 6.5 calibers and how good they worked at 2700-2800 speeds. god i hate it when hes right. he bought one of the first 260s when they came out,and i bought the classic from him. deer drop at the sight of that rifle,LOL. never had a 25 caliber till my youngest son got me one for christmas pressent. man does it shoot flat and sub 3/4 groups all day long. i guess you can teach a old dog new tricks

After 5 Pages of favorites I was surprised to find out these standings
.270 - 13 individuals 30.06 - 6 individuals .308 - 6 individuals 300 WinMag - 5 individuals .243 - 3 individuals 7mm-08 - 3 individuals .257 Wby - 2 individuals 30/30 - 1 individuals
I honestly thought that the 30/30 or 30.06 would be higher up there... I know this isn't a competition but just found the info surprising.

It's a toss up for me. My 1954 Remington model 721 in .270 w/ Leupold Vari-X II 3x9 is my go-to gun at the moment. It is a tack driver. But I have only had it for 5 years. Bought it at Cabelas when I worked there. I would love to know all the game fields and mountain sides it has seen. My other Go-To, was my first rifle. It is a Winchester Model 70 xtr Featherweight in .308. I have taken lots of deer and coyotes with it. Verrry accurate gun, and a beauty to boot. It isnt wearing any glass at the moment, but as soon as I outfit it with a compact 2x7, she's going with me again. Certainly a pleasure to shoot and handle.

Nothing special but mine is a .270 Win. Black Shadow. I bought in used but like-new cond. 3 or 4 years ago and it's taken around 15 deer, two turkeys, two bobcats, 1 yote, and about 10-15 pigs. It's topped with a Sightron SI 3x9x40 in Millet rings and mount.
Old age ain't for sissies!

browning eclipse 270. I know when i pull the trigger, that it will hit where i aim.

For 45 years, my single favorite has always been a Marlin 336 in .30-30. I've used it to take everything from squirrels & armadillos to an elk in Colorado. Though the elk dropped DRT, on subsequent Colo hunts, I used a .30-06, simply because I'd had to pass a few shots that were beyond my 200 yd comfort range with the .30-30. Now that I've shot a few hundred rounds of the LeverEvolution ammo, I wouldn't hesitate to use the .30-30 if I ever got back to Colorado.
I'm not saying it's the optimal gun/caliber, because it's not. But after 45 years of heavy year-round use, I've achieved a degree of familiarity with the capabilities/limitations (mine and the gun's) that overcomes a lot of ballistic shortcomings.

Best action and stock trigger I've ever had on a rifle. Love that gun and got it from a guy on this forum!

Remington 700 ADL 270..... for 27 years Ah yes...thats my "blankie" too. Even if I don't take it out in the field to hunt. I still have it with me on the lease.

Remington 700 ADL 270..... for 27 years I can`t believe how many remington 700`s are listed in this post. Mine is also a rem.700 in a .270. I bought it in 1977 at k-mart for 156.00. I put a redfield 6x on it and I finally replace it with a nikon 4-12x50 4 years ago. There is no telling how many miles this gun has traveled in the 33 years I have been using it. Me,my son, and my grandson have all taken deer with this gun and I will probably use it until I am ready for the rocking chair. And by the way it is extremely accurate.
