What do you think would be the best way to cut the front shooting window out of my blind. Just made it this weekend out of PVC and burlap.

Agreed, windows would be easier than a swing fold top

Im thinking cutting 2 windows on the front on 3 sides like |___| so its attached at the top and then attaching a wooden stick/pole on the bottom of the flap so that you can just swing it up over the top and it will stay there from the weight of the stick when you pop out.

I would cut it so he flap swings down, lot easier than throwing it over the top as it looks like a tall blind.

I was thinking about making it flip down from the top like bownut said. I just don't know how i am going to the the fabric to stay up there with out it drooping down.

Velcro is what I was thinking. Just a small piece of it so u can pull it down quickly when sticking the gun outdoor

How about posting pics without the burlap. I would like to see how you did the frame.

me and quack150 have been working on this 1& 1/4 inch pvc and about 30 yards x 4ft of burlap and many tie wraps -_-
Burlap is like a 'sock' which slips over and can be taken off in one piece, pvc is a going to be a pain to carry down to the water, maybe a hiking backpack im thinking smirk

Cut it so that you can double it over and zip tie it to the pvc...or sew it so it's like a sheath that you can slide the pvc through.

place it with the back to the sun and put 3x more brush on it tha you think you need, cut hole in front, hunt. The brush will do more for you than trying to worry about a trap door.

Is the pvc glued in place or are you going to dissasemble and reassemble on location?

Looks good. I like the velcro idea the best.

I built an almost identical PVC blind this year. I left that entire area you are discussing open during the first three hunts. I used a hatchet to chop down some small saplings and stuck them into the ground and then zip tied them to the blind frame at the highest point. There was one sapling on each front corner and one attached to the middle support. The branches and leaves kept us pretty concealed but did not obstruct our view much or get in the way of shooting when we stood up and stepped forward. the brush also helped to conceal the large blind quite a bit. We just made sure to sit to the back of the blind and be still. The ducks could not get a view of us until it was too late for them to do anything about it.

I wouldn't worry about the opening, being in the shadows under the top is going to help the most. As others said, brush it up good and that's it.

Here is the one I built and I learned that just being under the roof area and behind the lower screen was good enough if your face was covered. I've added more brush to it and some of it is more brown now.

I will say that I have considered using some hog pannel wire cut just over the size of the opening and zip tied in several places along the front rail. You could stick some brush through the wire pannels and then push it out so that it would fall forward when you want to shoot. One other item... you might want to label those parts very clearly. I made mine all the same size as much as possible. However, as simple as the design seems, it can get frustrating trying to assemble it in the dark in a hurry.... trust me.

AGray,

That's what I did. You can't see it but there is wire mesh on the outside of the camo cloth in back. I wove some of the branches into the wire.

I like the idea of a pvc frame. I'm dong the same thing on a smaller scale for walk in hunts... Using 1/2 inch cpvc cut into 18" sections with couplings and tees to build a semi circle blind covered with camo systems netting brushed with marsh cane.

I would use 1" 1/4 pvc.
Like you said i small version would be really good for walk in hunts i just generally hunt with a larger group of guy's.

Get some heavier chicken wire and put it on the back of the windows you are going to cut. Have it so they fall down when you push them. You can pick up chicken wire at home depot out in the garden section.
