This will be interesting for me too. I already have a 7mm rem mag but have been considering a 300 WSM.

both are excellent cartridges. the 7mag ammo is easier to find. i have a 7mag but owned 2 300wsm's. i like the short bolt throw of the 300. the 300wsm shoots the 150 grainers faster than the 7mag. i could hunt with either in full confidence. felt recoil was about the same for both.

Only thing that I would ask myself is if you prefer a long action or short action. Both of the calibers will be more than you need to kill what you mentioned.

I'm hunting with a 7mm rem mag this year and so far it's been good for me. I've fired it exactly four times, and it's killed four animals.

hmm, not sure i would make that trade if it were me. any reason why you would consider trading the submoa?

consider the weight if you plan on doing any long range walking on the muledeer. But either will work fine on those critters.

Check out the trigger on the Ruger before you trade. I dont think you will like it if it has not been worked on.

I can't speak for the 300 but I have a 7mag and love it. Enough power to reach out and touch steel a good distance away from what I've shot.

I had a 7mm WSM and checked 4 or 5 different wally worlds and they didnt have the 7mmWSM ammo. They all had the 300 WSM though

I think the 300 WSM may be by next rifle, I like short actions.

The trigger on the Ruger isn't the greatest. As you saw with the AR the trigger is one of the most important parts of making a gun shoot accurate. I would stick with the 300. If you do trade for the Ruger have a trigger put in it. Or you could always just buy or trade for Remington's and have no problems. If I had to choose either I would prob pick the 300.

Anyone can own a fancy gun but can you shoot it ?

I used to shoot a 7 mag. Good cartrige if you don't mind the recoil of a Magnum.

a 7mm will have better energy at further distances due to smaller bullet

Neither one is big enough for a Texas whitetail peep
