Okay, I'll be hunting near Comstock, TX...near the border. First time that far south. Got any tips or stories I should hear? I'm worried about the cross border violence from Mexico and the drug gangs. Should I be?

I say be cautious - not worried. Go, have fun, but be aware of your surroundings. My understanding (limited like everyone's) is that the majority of the dope traffic is further west of there. But it happens. There's a check point between Amistad and Comstock. If you go through there, ask the Border Patrol guys for their take on the situation.

Two weeks ago I hunted South of Carizo Springs which put me about 2 miles from the border while in the stand and at camp. We had zero issues but I was cautious and aware of my surroundings. My buddy works on that ranch and in three years they haven't had any issues with the cartels but do have illegal traffic.
My opininion is that you just need to be careful and don't do anything stupid. Everything should be fine.

Another point to mention is that these guys are very well aware of EVERYTHING that goes on on this side of the border. They are very well aware that it is deer season and those box blinds very well may have a Texan with a scoped rifle and a cell phone sitting and watching... They will try to avoid you if they can. But like I originally said, just be cautious.

What kinda border stories do ya wanna hear? I've got a bunch.
Where 'bouts around Comstock will you be hunting, off of which highway? Been quite a bit of traffic (human) up FM 1024 and less on FM 163. On either side of 90 it would depend pretty much exactly where you are at.
I wouldn't sweat it too much, about the aliens. They are trying to get the heck away from here as fast as they can and get further inland.
It's dry as a bone down here right now and this past week the bucks have really been moving.

I always carried a sidearm, well I always carry one but made it a point to have on at all times when I was hunting near the border the last couple of years.
The only advice otherwise is don't leave your keys in the truck like moat people do elsewhere while hunting.

Don't leave anything valuable unattended in camp. The aliens will steal anything including your food.

Thanks all...I hope to see more deer than people on this hunt. I keep a keen eye on stories about our border as it is heating up for sure. I've always wanted to dove/deer hunt Mexico...but that will have to wait awhile as you know why. I always follow the Boyscout motto: Be Prepared. Glad to hear local input from deerfeeder. BTW I sent a pm to you. Keep the stories coming.
