yea it does. I have yet to have that happen to me, but my wife made that mistake her first year hunting. she cried and felt bad about it after we walked up to the little guy. Chalk it up as a learning experience

I'm Guilty!! Only difference is when I got to it they slightly protruding and had to waist my buck tag on it that year. Does that make you feel better?

I did it once when I was 14. Didn't put my binos up, and should have. Appeared to be a doe and fawn, shot the "doe". Got up to it and it was a spike. Must have been a spike and buck fawn. Will NEVER make that mistake again. Always look closely and never assume anything. Also, never shoot a lone doe, it may just be a nubbin.

Been there and done that two years ago. Good size body so thought for sure it was a doe. But nope it wasn't

I shot a deer I thought was a doe last year but it had 1 inch spikes. The deer was not a yearling thought so looking back on it probably was a good mistake to make but I sure felt bad about it until I got the meat back. I don't see how a 75 lb dressed spike buck would be a yearling since it was the size of a nice doe.

I do not take the first deer that I see thinking it is a doe unless I am 100% sure now. I was spot and stalking when I took it but still looked at it for several minutes. I could not see those little spikes but will triple check next time.

3 years ago. The antlers nubs didn't protrude, so I didn't have to waste one of my buck tags, but I did get a pretty heavy lecture from the land manager. In my defense, Late season and as usual an all-out mad-house trying to get the doe quota for a ranch so I was told to shoot every doe I saw and "stack em up".

I shot what I thought was a big doe Saturday morning. Turned out to be a ummmm buck with antlers broken to the head. Both breaks were clean. Looked like they had been sawed off. I promise one side had a little jag but the other was smooth. I about freaked out. How would I explain this if the man accused me of sawing off antlers. It looks like one was sawed off clean. Pretty clear whatever happened occured awhile ago but still it looked bad. Well I manned up, tagged him a spike and took him to the processer. Game warden wasnt there. He usually is. Dropped the deer off and went on my way. I know I did nothing wrong but it sure could have been looked at different by the Game Warden. Anyway the antlers would have been very small had the buck not broke them off. Very small diameter etc.

Back on topic, I did shot a button buck thinking it was a doe when I was around 15 or 16. Didnt care at the time. It was a legal deer and I was happy as could be.

It ain't easy being me.

I shot one and felt really bad about it for a day or so because I thought it was stupid and it was a one buck county, so I was done for the season. At the end of the day it was no big deal and I just chalk it up as a learning experience. I rarely shoot does any more and if I did I would try to be better at making sure.

Did that opening weekend this year, man I was upset! I felt bad and should have taken my time. There was only time to shoot or not shoot and not look the scope carefully and now I learned my lesson. He was really tasty though!

2 deer in the freezer is my goal, horns or no horns. I get 5 tags for 5 deer county, a nubbin tastes as good as a doe.

Done it a few times while on draw hunts at State Parks; an antlerless deer at those locations means 1 less mouth taking away on the habitat and it is all about the management of the habitat on the state parks.

I did about 4 years ago. I am not proud of it, but it was a 250 yard shot in low light. I shot his momma too.

If your in the woods long enough, it's gonna happen. After it happens a few times, figure out that it's better not to pull the trigger if you don't have enough time to observe the animal.

Went on a drawed hunt this week and was told at this particular place 1/3 of the deer shoot where fawns one even weighed 25lb and the year before one weighed 17lb. It does happen more than one would think.
