In other words, do one buck counties now stand alone on the buck limit?

About 2 years ago, I was told by a friend, who was told by a rep from a deer feed manufacturing company that you can shoot multiple bucks from different one buck counties if you have that opportunity. For the past 2 years I have not been able find this in writing in the regs. My in-laws own land in 2 different, but adjacent counties, so I have that opportunity. But, I haven't done it yet because if a Game Warden checked I wouldn't bank on the fact that "I was told by a friend..."

Can someone show me where it is in writing, please!

Yes you can. It was not always this way though.

If I can find it I will post a link.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

What about if you hunt in a 2 buck county and you shoot your cull buck first?

So, you use the #7 tag on that buck. Then, you shoot a trophy you use your #8 tag on that buck. Is that the correct way to go about that?

There was a big debate this past weekend at deer camp that a trophy had to be tagged with the #7 and cull with the #8. No matter what order they were shot in.

My thinking is that whatever buck comes first gets the #7 then your second buck gets the #8.

This is a non-AR county BTW. I just didn't understand why someone would use their #8 tag before #7

Yep, I have leases in 3 different counties - all one buck counties. I could technically kill 3 bucks per year, although it has never, and probably never will, happen. That third buck would have to be a whopper to get me to pull the trigger.

BTW - If memory serves me correctly, 3 bucks is the maximum for the state, even if you have access to land in a fourth or fifth one buck county. If you have MLD tags, you can kill as many as you have tags for.

Don't be a wisea$$ TxTechsan, I just might post again in '13 laugh

I grew up hunting in the cross timbers region, so I know it hasn't always been this way. I guess that is what made me nervous not being able to confirm in the regs.

I never considered what number tag to use first, as long as it is properly on a doe or buck I never worried.

The regulations typically will not say you can do something - they typically state what you cannot do. In the tagging section of the regulations they clearly state that you can use your tags in all counties, no restrictions stated:

http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publications/annual/hunt/tagging/

IMPORTANT: TAGS #7, #8 and #9 ARE FOR WHITE-TAILED BUCK OR ANTLERLESS DEER. TAGS #5 and #6 ARE FOR WHITE-TAILED ANTLERLESS DEER ONLY. BUCK TAGS MAY BE USED IN ANY COUNTY; HOWEVER, LACK OF CAREFUL PLANNING WITH TAGS #7, #8, and #9 MAY REDUCE THE NUMBER OF WHITE-TAILED BUCK DEER YOU MAY LAWFULLY TAKE.

NOTICE: READ THE TAG USE DESCRIPTION ON YOUR LICENSE CAREFULLY BEFORE ATTACHING TO HARVESTED DEER.
USE ON WHITE-TAILED DEER ONLY:

* Tag Number 5 - White-tailed Deer - Antlerless ONLY
* Tag Number 6 - White-tailed Deer - Antlerless ONLY
* Tag Number 7 - White-tailed Deer - Buck or Antlerless Deer
* Tag Number 8 - White-tailed Deer - Buck or Antlerless Deer
* Tag Number 9 - White-tailed Deer - Buck or Antlerless Deer

NOTE: The white-tailed deer tags on the license may be used in any county during an open season for white-tailed deer.

Years ago they specified the "aggregate buck-bag restriction" in one buck and two buck counties. This restriction was eliminated in 2005:

http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publications/pwdpubs/media/pwd_br_w7000_0191_05_05.pdf

1st page, 2nd column last paragraph:

The commission also eliminated the
aggregate buck-bag restriction in one-buck
and two-buck counties. The new regulation
allows hunters to take a buck in any three
different one-buck-only counties or they
could hunt in multiple two-buck counties,
provided they do not exceed the county
bag limit or take more than three bucks in
all the two-buck counties combined.

So the tags #7, #8 and #9 have to be used in order, is that correct? I haven't harvested a buck this year, yet, but hopefully will and guess I will use tag #7
first, lol!!!

Yeah you can fill your tags in different counties as long as you don't go over that counties buck limit and no more than 3 bucks per year in all counties combined!!!

Yeah, you used to be limited but not anymore. Just can't exceed the number of bucks for a given county. Make sure to log each kill on the back of your license.

The way I read the regulation they are saying order of tag use doesn't matter, however, tags 7,8 &9 can be used for bucks or antlerless deer. If you use tag 7,8 or 9 for an antlerless deer, you are now limited to two bucks for the year - even if tags 5 and 6 which are antlerless deer only are still on your license. Shoot 2 antlerless deer and tag them w/ tags 7,8 or 9 and now you are down to 1 buck allowed. Shoot 3 antlerless deer and tag them w/ tags 7,8 and 9 and now you can no longer shoot a buck at all (even if tags 5 and 6 are still unused).

Where you will get in trouble and get fined is for not filling out the BACK OF YOUR LICENSE!!

The harvest log has only been on the back of the license for about 10 years now.

Yes it can be done legally. The state wide limit is 5 deer with 3 being bucks.
