I've got two Brittany's and would love to have them trained. The oldest is roughly a year and a half old with very little of a hunting bloodline, but is OVERFLOWING with instincts. She is constantly pointing and has been plucking birds from the feeders for nearly a year. My youngest is not quite five months old and has a very impressive bloodline, but is showing very little instinct . . . In fact, she is far more interested in being with me, whereas my older one loves spending her time in the backyard chasing all of the native creatures.
So, my question is . . . is my oldest too old to train? Secondly, how much does it run to have them trained? And any people you'd recommend?
Thanks in advance. If I've forgotten anything, let me know.

I'd say definitely not too old to be trained. A lot of professionals will wait until the dog is almost a year old before doing any serious training with it, and yours would definitely be young enough to still learn. I wouldn't give up on your 5 month old just yet...some dogs just blossom late.

The average price is $500-$600 a month for training.
Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden. Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

Come out to our Katy NSTRA trial this weekend. There should be a couple of Lousiana trainers there. They'll be much closer to you. I think their monthly rate is around $400.
