Went down for a morning hunt Saturday. Saw a few does and some hogs and 2 coyotes. Looking for the big one!! My jeep had a clutch problem....all of a sudden. It is a hydraulic clutch so, I sent my mechanic down there today and got him to check things out and get the jeep ready for this next weekend.
When he returned, he told me a story that is too believable to come from a non-hunter. He knows nothing about deer. He told me as he was starting up the jeep he saw a doe run across the road up from camp. He watched the doe and then saw something moving in the brush. He told me that this buck was wider than any I have killed and wider than any I had on the wall in my office. At least a 10 pointer.
He told me the buck ran across the road and then he heard some noises that he had never heard before that made him think that there was something besides a deer in the brush. Heard a couple of deep growls and a lot of foot stomping and brush cracking.
I know where he is now. I know where he hangs out. He will be mine!! Finally, something to get excited about and stir my interest. Can not wait for this weekend!!

I'm still waiting on the rut to start heating up in S. Tx. Hopefully by mid-Dec things will start getting interesting.

Hey at least you know they are there. I haven't seen or got a picture of a shooter. Haven't seen a buck over 2 1/2 years old and the 2 1/2 year old is a 9 point that I'm sure the neighbors will kill if he walks out. I wish he was under 13". Have a picture of a 3 to 4 year old that doesn't have brow tines, if he walks out he will probably die. I have still sat every morning and evening that is wasn't storming except for yesterday since opener. Felt burnt out yesterday.

I hunted this evening and got to the blind about 3:00 p.m. and sat till dark and didn't see any deer or hogs, but only about 30 turkeys right after I got there.

Just after getting to the truck there stands a huge buck about 140 class standing in the field just on the other side of the fence on the neighbors property.

That buck just looked at me and turned and trotted away toward the back fence.

Where he was standing the only pasture around was our property so that had to have been where he came from to enter the field.

I know where he's at now so that gives me something to hunt for also.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.
