I just got a Remi .700 in 30.06 yesterday with a leupold vx-ii but the crosshairs are not level. I tried in the past to eyeball it the best I can but whats the best method to getting the crosshairs perfectly level?

I always just try and eyeball the vertical crosshair with the center of the bolt. You kinda have to un-focus your eye from the scope to do it but its always worked for me.

I know thats not the answer you were lookin for but it got me to the 12,000 mark! banana

I use a small level that i put on the gun to make sure its level and then put it on the scope to make sure its level. It works for me.

I also use a small level, it helps a lot to use a gunvise for holding the gun secure while mounting the scope.

Wheeler crosshair leveling kit. 20$ most places. Solved years of disagreements between my hunting friend and me about what was level.

A lot of disagreements stem from how each shooter holds the gun... few hold the gun square. I have set them both ways, square to shooter and square to rifle.

I also have one Marine friend who shoots with his elbow so high my scopes look like X's to him....

As long as it's the same way every time you shoot, accuracy is the same.

I always put the rifle in a padded vise, level across the scope bases, then put in the scope and level off the top cap. It always gets it spot on for me.

I center the lower cross hair on the center of the bore/bolt, whatever the case may be.

Some boresighting tools have a light that shines from it that you can level the scope too.

Hold the rifle in a shooting positiom aimed at a pre-leveled target, adjust scope to align with target lines.

Remingtons have the sqaure recoil lug so I typically take them out of the action, set them on a known level surface. Aim the scope at a door or corner in the wall and go from there. Seems to do ok. Works pretty well with the mag well on AR-15's as well.

B Square also makes a great little tool that fits in the action with the bolt removed that squares the crosshairs with the rifle action.

That Leupold boresight is the schnizzel! I like being able to check zero at any time.

Yeah that leupold zero point is nice I just eyeballed the crosshairs as best as I could and they actually look pretty damn even to me and the rifle shot great the next day!

I used a good friend of mine wheeler's level level level and it was off just a tad bit im going to use this thing on all my rifles tonight.

If you guys are saying you are getting dead on with only a boresighter, you are a better gunsmith than any I have ever seen.

In fact, you need to quit that and buy lotto tickets with that device, you have better odds.

That's what I was thinking, my bore sighters only get me on paper at the 50yd target. Guess I should buy the Leupold instead of the BSquare

I use the Leupold bore sighter and it only gets me close. I wouldn't trust the rifle without shooting it at paper before taking to the field.

Nah fellas, have you used this thing yet? I didn't use it for the boresight but rather after. When your gun is zeroed in you simply put the boresight on the barrel, read where the reticule is at (grid pattern) and mark it on the supplied paper. Everytime you put this thing on it will be in the exact same spot!!! I don't know how it works or why, but it does. It is fairly expensive but worth every penny. As far as the boresight goes all of my rifles zeros show to be within 1 inch from where the grids zero's are at. I don't know if everyone of these boresights are as accurate as mine is but I would think so, I have only used mine though. This thing is sweeetttt!!!

Im not saying it was dead on but I was able to get my crosshairs pretty even with it and that was prob by luck, I used the wheeler level today and just had to make a slight adjustment to make it perfect. Now for the paper results I wouldnt be suprised its off a tad bit since I did move the scope the guy I bought it from said it was shooting 1" groups at 100 so we will see what happens once I get to the ranch.
