No I'm not, and it doesn't matter if I am. Do you have anything worthwhile to add to the conversation? or are you just wanting to stir things up?

What.........that is absolutely nuts. NO part of 5 or 10 acres is fair chase. A confined environment such a 5 to 10 acres is not anything close to fair. I can't believe some of this stuff!!!!!!!!!!

That my friend is your opinion, and rightfully so. Just because YOU do not think it is far chase, does not mean it is just. Just your opinion. Would I ever hunt behind one of those enclosures.......NO, and I might add that probaly 99% of us would not do it either.Just because someone wants to, gives us zero right to tell them they are wrong. Ask yourself is this legal, if it is, then all you have is your opinion, and nothing else.

Well, I don’t reply too much on here anymore. It’s just not worth the time. The 5 or 10-acre deal just reminded me why. I almost fell out of my chair.

You never know WHAT you might see here!! That is a real knee slapper.

But hey, if it’s legal, by all means go out and do it! Sorry for the wet panties boys, hope they dry soon.

What makes you think they don't already have a foot-hold? And-- what are you gonna loose??? Spanky, you still have a chioce where to hunt! Put them out of your mind and go do your own thing that you've been accustomed to doing. My2cents

Thanks for your response, I do my own thing, as my wife tells me all the time. Can I ask you, are we are not the custodians of the sport of hunting? I think yes, we all are, so is it not our job not to protect what we love, even though some of it is not to our liking.

Ladies and Gentlemen we welcome you to Forum Night Fights

This evening in the North High Fence pasture weighing in at, "It is a legal form of confinement regarding a piece of real property owned by an individual or group of individuals to better manage or attempt to better manage the wild and plant life contained within said enclosure", the eight foot wonder of the Texas landscape, grass is greener cause we have an irrigation system also, High Fence Supporters.......

and in the South High Fence pasture weighing in at, "Don't you dare prohibit an animal that is owned by the state from crossing any and all property lines created by ownership by individuals or groups of individuals even though access to said animals is only granted to the general public upon approval of the individual who has the keys to the gate", the five foot is high enough, four foot is better, no fence might make me far too liberal to even consider hunting , Low Fence Lovers......

Care to go back thru this morass, and point out where I said that I would hunt under such conditions????????

As I have said all along, I am not fond of high fences, except for exotics. But I am also not for seeing landowners lose the right to manage their property as they see fit.

None of which has anything to do with what I asked you, as to what your definition of "Fair Chase" hunting is?

All I know is that fair chase does not have “confinement” in the equation. Last time I checked, free range is fair chase.

And the debate continues.... First off, God Bless Texas! Texas undisputably sets the standard in wildlife management in America. This is, in part, attributed to the management tool of high-fences. There is also the landowners right issue that allows us (fortunately!) to do what we wish with our property.

I doubt any of us would "hunt" a 5-acre enclosure, but that is our CHOICE. It should not be "regulated" by the government.

Just my .02

If you will check your resource material, I will bet it doesn't have box blinds, timed corn feeders, free choice protein feeders, atv's, game cams, eve planted food plots, a whole lot of stuff most of us take for granted.

It all depends on EACH INDIVIDUALS concept of what hunting is, and where "Fair Chase" or the individual determination of "Fair Chase" falls into that.

Do you consider hunting Feral Hogs at night with a spotlight "Fair Chase"?

Do you consider shooting deer from an elevated or ground blind overlooking a feeder "Fair Chase"?

Wonder why you moved or wonder what took you so long to finally leave? Since you dislike TX so much, i have to ask myself why you come to a TX Hunting forum and post?

Mike I assume you never lived in one of those "foreign" states (countries), all they do is whiz and moan about Texas. I think it is a jealousy factor. Then it is also the weather, after a few winters they might be semi brain dead.

Just my pennies worth of thoughts.

Never lived there but i did spend about 2 years working on wells all around a little town called MaCook Neb. Did a little pheasant hunting and 1 whitetail hunt with several of the locals. Never met a finer bunch of people. I think it's more of a Bucklessbob thing than it is an out of state thing.

You are probably right Mike, but there is some of that jealousy factor. Spent 3 years in North Dakota, met a lot of great people, but a lot of them have moved south to Texas after visiting a couple of times. Have to say the hunting is great, but those winters are too long and way too COLD. Nebraska isn't much better.

We keep going down the same trail. I spent about 3 1/2 weeks working on a 22,850 ft well for ARCO, just about 5 miles south of Williston ND in the middle of February. Never in my life have i been or seen it get so cold. We had 1 day go to 100 below zero with the chill factor. It's a whole different world up in that country. We were actually driving back and forth across the Williston river to get to the well, the ice was that thick.

Okay, lets assume, and you know what assume means, we are custodians! I'm doing my part to conserve the wildlife on my place. Can't ask me to do any more than what I'm doing. So, I contend I haven't lost a thing when it comes to high fences and I got 'em all around me!! Seems to me they've lost something when they come to us "low fencers" and want to purchase our deer for their high fence operation. This don't happen all the time but its a sure sign something isn't right on a few of those type of operations! Spanky, the point I'm trying to make with you is that there are still a ton of us low fencers and we aren't changing for anybody so there is still a choice in your hunting menu. Continue to "do your own thing". Are you a land owner?

You've sold deer, from your place? What kinda price range?

Depended of course on the buck and some wanted bred does. Usually somewhere between 1 and 2 thousand dollars for the bucks and we supervised and they did the work.

Just my opinion and only that. You pick and choose where you hunt. If it's not good with you, don't do it. I am not a land owner but hope to be some day. Please don't tell me what I can and can't do on my (future)land. I would not hunt high fence but I have no problem with it. More regulation means more regulation. Anti's will feed on this. Please protect our resource, which to me means banding together. We are nothing without eachother.

What you can do Brushhog when you do get you some land is manage it and the wildlife. Thats the key to our wildlife in Texas. I had to do some schooling and rely on my peers for advice and suggestions and a whole lot of help because I had nothing to work with in the way of equipment and still don't have very much.
