my cousin has a nice piece of land in Sequin an this past summer the hogs were comming in ,in huge herds almost all day long never seemed like only at set times. but now they have thinned out an dont come as often, or as plentyful ? we have changed nothing but add another feeder recently to kinda help bring them back. any words of wisdom? or tricks? love to hear the feed back an thank you in advance.

other hunters are probably hammering them making them switch their pattern. also just having extra hunters in the woods (surrounding properties) will make them change things up. eventually their stomachs will override their brains & they will come back. especially if they aren't pressured too much.

I hunt one place we only see hogs after a rain, then they are plentful. Hogs do move around some with water playing a big part of that IMO. Hunting pressure can also move them, and food sources like a big acorn crop can also affect their movements, but if you had a large population you probally will again.

The place I hunt had them all summer, now they're gone as well. Landowner says they come back every summer.

Its hard to pattern hogs just shoot when you can.

They do seem to migrate, though they do follow food and water. We have more hogs certain times of the year than at others. They are coming in a little more now because we have deer feeders going.

their only pattern is no pattern. you may have a group hit your feeder for a while and even if you are smacking down their brother and sisters and cousins they will still come back. then out of nowhere they all disappear.

I outfitted bowhunters one year on a ranch out of Sabinal. I would have hogs coming regular for a week or so and then they would disappear. Be gone for a few weeks and then show up again.
I firmly believe they travel in a circle ,hang out for a while and move on and eventually make it back to where they started. And I think the feeding conditions dictate how far and fast they do travel.

We had ours patterned on our trail cameras before we opened fire. Will have to see when they show back up and can set another pattern. This is the first time we have ever seen pigs on the place.

Last pig i saw out here was in mid to late april. No signs of them here or on the neighboring places. They showed up on my game cams regularly from oct-jan. The last pig was a sole big boar in april that came in for a week or so. I did not get a good shot on him because he spooked. As bad as it sounds, i'm ready for them to come back. My trigger finger is getting itchy for them.

You stand a better chance at night if you have night vision or some kind of lighting around a feeder other wise it's just a sit and wait game on the feeders

we had red lights set on the feeder and even had close circuit tv on the feeder (until i shot the wire) i think we pressured them away. josh summer and you missed at least once. we need to dig a hole and fill it with water.
I will get off in a little bit

na cus the lights an camera have been out there all through the summer though. if anything that should have stopped them for the beginning but they never cared about them. heck thats how we seen alot of the big herds come in over an over. An KMON1 had a good point about the acorn crops. it all mesquite on our side of the road but just down the road all them trees are droppin them acorns by the tons. maybe when they finish them up they be back to the corn nice an fat for us lol

I agree with Txkiller. They are extremely random and I almost hate to even waste the corn.

is it possible to buy acorns in bulk ? or maybe a crushed product? maybe something to add in our feeders with the corn? other then stuff like Acorn Rage an over priced stuff that dont work lol, maybe something from like a feed store? an if there isnt i patent the idea lol. i was just told that planting fruit trees on the property works wonders? is it true? sounds logical i think

Taylor county trapper said hogs cover a wide area, they come and go, more so in other areas than some.
Depends on water, food, cover for sows to have their liters and hunting pressure.
Took 12 feeders offline before bow season, kept 3 with corn to control what areas they did frequent, didn't stop them much cause we have abundance of oak, which means acorns.
Acorns are source for fat for the winter, even though they hit feeders, the acorns were still sought after as number one food right now.
