I want to buy a 22 mag pistol for a carry gun in the lease. I my WEB research so far I have seen the Tarus 941 double action, Ruger Western style single action and the AMT AutoMag II.
The AutoMag looks too big and bulky, I have a 9mm Tarus that I am not real happy with so I am a bit dubious about the 941 and as for the single sixs I won't buy one that doesn't have an adjustable rear sight.
So my question is, any sugestions on make/model/barrel length etc.

Thanks for any input you can provide.

I have the AMT automagII. It's a neat little pistol, but very picky about ammo. Best luck getting it to feed properly is with Winchester ammo. Very accurate little pistol though. No advice on the others.

I've got a Ruger Single Six 7 1/2 inch and a Smith and Wesson model 48 8 3/8ths. Wear hearing protection, those things will ring your ears. Both are fine guns in my opinion. Accuracy goes to the Smith.

Another vote for the single six.

Many of the Ruger Single Six's come with adjustable sights. I use the one in stainless steel, 5.5" barrel, Catalog #KNR5, Model #0625.

With a revolver, when you use snake/rat shot you don't have to worry if it will cycle the action, just pull back the hammer and shoot again.

Check out the new kel-tec. Really light weight (empty anyways) and has a 30 round magazine.

Is Taurus the only mfg. that makes a double action revolver in 22 Mag?

I believe S&W still makes the model 48.

I agree with the "Bearcat" for sure. In a revolver, the 22 mag don't do much more damage than the 22LR for what you would really use it for. The rifle is different story.

But you MUST have one with adjustable sights.

Goodluck.

I've always been fond of the Single Six. Had an Auto Mag once, and while it was picky about ammo, it was a kick to shoot. You might consider using the Aguila .22lr Hyper-velocity ammo in whatever revolver you end up with. It has better ballistics than the .22WMR out of a short barrel, and costs less than the .22 mag ammo. Just don't use it in a .22 autoloader (rifle or pistol).

Single-Six and Bearcat fan here. For just kicking around the place I like the small size and weight of the bearcat in a good holser.
