First off it's darn cold...
Second, I have decided hunters should start wearing bright red. I came home to visit my dad for thanksgiving and so I could try to put some meat in the freezer... My dad will bring me hunting and drop me off wherever i want to hunt on our lease... Then he will go to the BRIGHT RED truck and sit there and wait for me to shoot something... When I get back to the truck he tells me what he saw. This usually consists of a few good shootin bucks... I don't understand how he sees more than me sittin in a bright red vehicle? All I've seen the past two days are does and yearlings.

My guide has a red truck and his hunters have killed many a big buck out of that thing. We have both double and single blinds. If we are on a good buck at one of the single blinds and the hunter needs a guide with him, he simply pulls up next to the blind in his truck and done deal most of the time. We call it the red rolling blind. Because this is a working cattle ranch, the deer are used to seeing trucks and machinery parked around the ranch all year long. Doesnt normally bother them at all. Hope you get something this morning.

This remoinds me of some discussions aroung camp. Deer so not really notice a red light at night supposedly because they do not see the red color spectrum very well, so if that is the case. In what manner and how well do they see a red object like a truck? How well would they see a person dressed in red?

Good luck on filling your tags this year and have fun with your dad

I've been saying for years God meant for us to hunt them out of a vehicle. Last stat I saw I believe auto/deer crash is responsible for more deer mortality than hunting season.

Sit in that truck and try rolling down a window or opening a door. I cant count how man times deer are on the side of the road with cars whizzing by but try going real slow or stopping or opening a door! THEY ARE OUT LIKE A FAT ARSE TROUT!!!!

As mentioned above deer dont see the red end of the spectrum. They do see the blue and green end of the spectrum very well. Color isnt really the issue they are just used to vehicles. My butt would be sittin in that truck with a rifle.

These folks are right. The deer are used to the truck. They probably see it all the time and I'll bet that truck has never been a threat to them so they don't fear it. If you sat in that truck, the deer may have a surprise coming.

have a bro. that sits in a big green diesel truck "running" so he can keep warn. that guy shoots more shooter bucks than anyone.
i think the deer dont pay attention to it cause its always on the lease.

yep, shot plenty of deer out of a truck just sitting there...
if driving and you stop, they are gone..
but just sitting there..

we had 2 deer come 30ft behind us earlier this week, directly downwind of us too.....

my dad has always maintained this and the biggest buck I have shot was done from the comfort of a truck early one freaking cold January morning!

Most ranchers when they do actually hunt deer on their property don't sit in a blind.

They pull up to a sendero that forms a V and if they see a big buck cross one of the openings they just wait for him to show on the other, and like said a diesel they will just sit there and idle in a nice warm cab with the radio on.

Can't beat that kind of hunting!

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.
