Forgot to add use factory ammo for PD. I know we reloaders love our own but lawyers have a way of turning that around.

I like the Hornady Critical Defense. I have a CDP Custom and it has no problems with it. I also shoot the TAP ammo in the 9mm and 40 but I'm not sure they make the TAP for the 45ACP.

Seriously? Do you really have to start with the speculation crap? Why does this mess happen anytime a handgun is mentioned? It gets really old. And before you respond I'll inform you that this has been brought up several times before and dis-proven each time on every single front. Just do a search and you'll save the trouble of typing post after post and being proved wrong.

A Speer, XTP, TAP etc. self defense bullet is still a Speer, XTP, TAP bullet no matter how it gets there.

Dang didn't intend to touch a sore nerve. I was just passing along advice given in a CHL course and from LEO friends. If that advise is incorrect great. I will stick with factory ammo for that purpose myself and pray that I never have the need to use it.

And by the way to the OP. My kimber does feed the gold dots and sabers very well. Sorry if I hujacked the thread with the reloading comment

Dont worry above touchung a "NERVE" cause there are those here that dont do research or dont think it will happen because we live in Texas...Fact is you made a good point regarding reloads for self defense...There are many articles and cases regarding this "FACT" not "speculation" in the use of hollow points and reloads for self defense...Prosecutors are "trying" to use this against us, whether some want to believe it or not..And if no criminal charges are filed against the defender, there is always the civil suit...I dont know about anyone else but I cant afford attorney fees or losing what I have to some bleeding heart family that wants to sue me because their drug addicted felon son was killed by me in defense of my own life...

How many times have you heard about the Burglar who seriously injured himself while breaking into someones home and sued and WON!!?? Same crap happens in self defense cases...
There are 49 other states outside of Texas,, Research

Besides, there is no correct or incorrect advise of YOUR use of ammo...Its what you feel comfortable using,,,personally, I use Critical defense in all my carry guns...

I can trump that whole long post.

If you're found justified you're immune from a civil suit. Simple as that.

Kmon, I apologize for coming on you too harsh. I just get aggrivated that everytime the words "handgun" or "self defense" are used someone interjects an urban legend as fact, or says "oh you will go to prison" as if they're a legal expert with years of case study. They end up bashing the person simply because they don't have the same opinion.

Think about it. Self defense is self defense. You don't go from a law abiding citizen to a mindless killer simply because the powder pushing the same bullet professionals use is a different formula.

You boys need to know something--the lawsuit can be filed even
if you have every law in the country protecting you!! If there is one tiny crack anywhere--you're about to be gutted and cleaned by the plaintiff attorney. Speaking from direct, hands on, litigation experience, several gun shot cases in different states--the costs are very high to defend yourself.
While you can be right in every sense of the legal battle--that is not the point--let me say that again, "that is not the point" --the point is, you will be sued and you will have to defend yourself. As pointed out above-do what you desire.

Like the others posters said-do what you want; but know what can happen to you. This is not some tit for tat, trying to run up your post total--this the real world and attorneys are a part of that. Or, or, it could be a situation where you may not have any assets or very little-in that case it really doesn't matter. Good luck.
