So here is how the long legged black teal met with its UNTIMELY demise. Just after LST on a cloudy hot and humid morning a lone dark bird flutters down right in the pod of teal dekes I set out. I just crossed 300 yards of open water in a 15-20 mph wind in the 'yak and built up a sweat. I was really ready to bust some ducks. Back to the event. I lined it up and was ready to pop this trespasser. Double checked with Scooter about LST and said duck in teal dekes. He said LST is good and I(Scooter) did not see it come in. It came in from the far right(me). He said take it! I pop up it starts to exit and I anchored it it the surface. I am all happy and sprint out to pick up my teal. I pick it up and (censor....!! ) it is a coot. I have always joked about "ground checking" and karma just took a big bite out of my backside. NO! I do not have any pics of that foul critter. Now move along folks its all over here,but clean up. http://www.resole.com/ They can fix a pair of boots!

Do you have th La Masters duck id book? thats kinda what i was thinkin. not only do coot look different when they are sitting on the water, but they fly nothing like a teal bird.... but hey its ok, you'll know next time what to look for I have found that diversity adds balance to things. And thats why i shoot a diversity of animals. so i can bring balance to my freezer

Like I said I was OVER stoked,and ready to smack some yummy teal. Only time I have ever mounted a gun on a coot. The crazy thing is, if this was last year I would have missed.
