About 3 minutes. Was driving in one morning and saw a nice buck in my headlights and got distracted. Drove my truck off in a very muddy rut in the road.
Didn't have a cell phone back then, didn't have a shovel, and was by myself. Had to dig it out by hand and it took all morning.
Covered in mud, feeling less than smart, I turned around, and drove home.
Did you mean successful hunt? I popped the first deer I saw several times as a youngster.

About an hour. Was heading to a blind at the back of the property before daylight and saw the deer I was hunting in the ranch road in the headlights. Got in the nearest blind and he came out shortly after daylight. 135" 8 point.

my shortest hunt was maybe 10min. i had walked to the stand with a small bucket of corn. walked down to a clearning along some cedar brush, started hand casting a little feed before crawling in the stand. i'd thrown about 4-5 handfuls of corn when outa the cedars came 4 feral pigs about 40lbs each. i picked up my rifle and got two of the 4. that was the hunt.

my shortest "real" hunt was around 30 min. i say real cause i was hunting and not culling.
i had hunted an axis buck for about 5 months without seeing ONE and i climbed up to the stand in june......30 min later i happened to see one sneaking thru the brush.....bang....hunt over

Shot a 10 point walking to my brush blind on a pipeline right of way in Kaufman county. I was still 5 minutes from the ground blind when he stepped out 150 yards ahead of me. Went to one knee and bang. So, I guess mine was negative 5 minutes? LOL

I walked to my stand one evening and hung my doe pee rag in a bush. I start climbing up my ladder stand and hear something. I turn around and there is an 6 point staring right at me probably 30 yards away. I slowly unsling my rifle while hanging on to the stand and somehow manage to shoulder it and pull of a shot.......... DRT. I was so excited I was 14 and it was my first buck almost fell off of the ladder.
Note: Yes I know now how stupid I was for climbing my ladder with a loaded gun and got my hide tanned for doing it when my step dad found out.

My shortest hunt was in the Hill Country guiding a hunter. He got to the ranch at noon and the bucks were moving and in full rut. We ate and then drove out into the ranch. Drove to the far north corner of the ranch (4500 acres). Got out of the truck at 1:30 and walked for 5 minutes and set up to rattle. Rattled for 1 1/2 minutes and he shot an 8 yr old 6x5 typical with a split browtine. Shook hands and hunt was over. Buck scored 157 gross. Could not have planned to do a hunt like that if I tried.

My first deer I ever killed was about the first 3 min of hunting. I was on my friends, family's property. I left out to go to the stand, and I heard him tell our other friend, that they would go to the "good spot." Didn't really bother me, because I knew no better. Climbed in the stand, loaded my gun, and an 8 point walked out. They hadn't even left the cabin. He was so mad, but it was awesome.

My shortest was opening day of bow season. That morning I got in stand 1 hr before timer went off. Timer went off and largest 8 pt I have ever shot was there and I shot him in first 5 min. It was strange working all year long for a 5 minute hunt. I was thrilled to death but at the same moment a little sad it happened too quick.

i know wat u mean about being alittle sad when its over. mine was so quick that when i looked at the deer i was pumped and then realized my buck was down. oh well thats what i was there for. even though we are in a 2 buck county, the lease owner says we can only kill 1 buck and 2 doe. guess its time to bust some does!

Shortest hunt, Was looking for a doe that morning. Pulled through the bumpgate on the county road onto the lease. 5 does were under a live oak about 150 yards away. turned on the pasture road that runs along the fenceline, stuck gun out the window chambered a round and filled my doe tag. Time on lease before shot less than 1 minute.
Shortest hunt for a buck, 6.5 year old 7pt. walking to stand a little late that morning heard a buck grunting stopped and sat down at the base of a tree, pulled out grunt call stared grunting he came in and I shot him at about 12 yards 2 minutes after legal shooting time. Same location drove 4wlr to beaver dam. parked it got the stuff of it for little repair on treestand corssed the beaverdam into the woods, when I got into the woods I met 2 mature bucks one ran left into thicket, the other ran to the right dropped him at 60 yards. Went on in did the minor repair to the treestand. 4 weeks later to the day my father killed the larger buck that eluded me that morning from that stand. The way that played out I have never been so glad that I let the big one get away, the buck that got away from me is my fathers biggest buck ever. Both deer were killed between 10:30 and 11:00 on the day of a full moon.

Many years ago, I was hunting in Mississippi with my wife's uncle. I decided to put up a ladder stand in a spot that was between two existing stands because it just seemed to be an area where bucks could travel without being seen from either stand. It must have been around 2:30 when I put the stand up. About 45 minutes later, I shot the buck that carried the rack shown (top) in the photo below.

It was the Sunday following Thanksgiving. It had been raining and cold for several days. At 1PM it stopped raining and I thought that would be a good time to get in the stand. So I loaded up and headed the 7 miles to my lease. I didn't have a feeder set up so I just sprinkled corn out of a bucket on the ground and then parked the truck about a 150 yards away. By the time I got back to the stand I had an old gnarled horned 11 pt standing there eating corn. I slipped into the natural ground blind and made perfect neck shot on him at 80 yards.
I gutted him and took him straight to the processor. I was home in the easy chair before 4PM.

This past weekend. Had two does on the ground in less than 25 minutes. The reason it took that long had to wait for fog to lift, legal shooting light, couldn't shoot toward an area where land owner had a breeder deer pen, and a small tree that was in the wrong place. The does were shot in less than a minute. One at 50 yds and the second at 100 yds.

Last year, we hadnt been seeing much on our lease, and due to graduating college and getting a job, I wasnt having the most time in the world to hunt. On the way to the blind I spoted a nice 8pt at my feeder, stalked/belly crawled to my blind, didnt even close the door great neck shot and done for the day.

Two come to mind. 2 years ago I parked the truck on a particularly windy afternoon to go to the blind. No more than 15 steps from the truck, I looked to my right and there lay a deer napping under a tree. Never woke up. Hunt time, approx 40 seconds from the time I shouldered my gun to the time I shot.
The year before, I climbed into my tripod @ 3:00. Smacked the rattling horns together @ 3:01 and at @ 3:01:15 I saw my biggest kill to date come blasting over a ridge right at me from @ 700 yds. traveling just short of a full run, neck swollen up, tongue hanging out, ALL rutted up and looking for a fight. Lost him for 2-3 seconds in the cedars until he entered my sendero...DRT. Hunt time probably 2-2.5 minutes.
