Is there a law or maybe an unwritten rule of how close a feeder can be to a neighboring fence. Our idiot neighbors have a feeder about five yards from our fence, so close it ot probably slings corn onto our side. Which isnt the big deal but the dang thing is lined up right with our hunting cabin/camp and another neighbors who's camp is near ours and the blind for this feeder is no more than two hundred yards away from our house. From there blind you can see both camps with little brush blocking it. We tried to talk to them and he said that they wait till the deer walk away from the feeder on out into the field before they shoot. Is there anything else we can do or should we wear bullet proof vests and helmets walking around our camp?

Thanks Guys

Nothing you can do. Best advice is to call the gamewarden and let him go have a talk with them about the laws regarding firing over a property line.

Good luck.

Put a blind up on the other side. Don't sit in it though

There's always predator scents you could put along the fence line when you are in camp. Some might consider this a little low but... For me it would depend on how the guy reacts when you talk to him (or her).

Put a coyote call in there too and hit the button when the deer arrive at his feeder.

Do you have a road along that fenceline? If not, don't you think it's about time you had one built?

Guy that neighbors my property has his tripod set up just on his side of the fence. He could probably stand on his tripod and piss on my property. His feeder is in the middle of his property, but what's to keep him from shooting on my side of the wire? Frustrating.

I'd take that any day over him putting the feeder on the fenceline and firing at you.

If he's going kill something on your side of the fence, he doesn't need a stand to do it.

I have one tripod that's 50 yards or less from a neighboring fence. However, because of topography, I can't see much more than the top of the fence and never even try to look back that way.

I think the terrain has as much to do with it as anything.

Exactly....try reason first. IF they won't listen to reason and insist on keeping it there, there are countless other measures you can take. Calling the warden to alert him to their setup is certainly one of those.

Quick story....I was ramrod of a pretty large lease about ten years ago. One day after the morning hunt, one of my hunters comes back to camp furious about the guys on the pasture to the west riding their ATVs along the fence line close to his stand....said they were even waving to him as he sat in his tower fuming. I'd met these guys and they were a decent bunch of bowhunters. I thought it was weird they would do that during hunting hours. Well, after asking him a few more questions, it turns out this guy had changed his setup and had a feeder right on their fence line. I of course explained that that was extremely poor form and could be dangerous. We both went over to their camp that morning to apologize and moved the feeder later that day.

Funny thing was I just assumed since this guy was about 10 years older than me and had been deer hunting a lot longer than me that he would have known not to do something like that.....just goes to show not everyone gets it.

sounds like no respect for other hunters if i new there was a camp that close i would move that stand or limit it to bow hunting only either way safety comes first in my book

the same as the guy driving his car right next the the dividing "paint line", the law.

If he is a law breaker than his tripod placement and your fence are of little consequence.

I'd put a stand back to back with his and either make friends or keep a close eye on your enemy.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

A feeder draws deer from 360 degrees, not just from one side of a fence or the other. If plausible, set up a stand 100 yards down the fence from his feeder and hunt deer coming to his feeder from your side of the fence. Be sure and thank him kindly for evey deer killed. After a few of "his" deer are killed before they can even get to his feeder, he'll move it.

We have the same problem....feeder on fence line. Only it's lined up with my blind (which is over 300 yds from the fence). I checked it yesterday and the humps haven't checked it lately because it's empty.

looks like you've found the spot for your new gut pile. Start dumping all your carcasses on your side of the fence right next to his feeder.

Talk first, take action if that does work out.
