I just got a beagle last year for christmas, one of the coolest dogs i have ever owned. She is the fistiest little thing you have ever seen in your entire life. Loves to chase rabits, but doesnt know how to hunt them really. I am training mind to blood trail, or trail wounded animals. She picks it up pretty good, just wish i had more time to work with her.

SLT,theres NOTHING like it!I'd rather run my dogs than hunt anything else.Even if I don't kill the rabbit, the chase is the fun part.We used to hunt a pack of 8,and let me tell you...when they jump one,you don't feel the cold or rain or anything but extreme excitement! My 8 could go from jump to out of hearing in a matter of minutes.Give em three or four minutes and they'd be headed back to you,not missing a beat. You shoot that rabbit, and they'd be off to get another one up. You might want to give it a try sometime.
And Grimey, take that Bassett out with someone who field trials. That way he learns to follow the trail instead of running behind very fast dogs and barking because they're doing it.

Should be able to find one anywhere. Just don't buy a gun dog pup cause they don't make very good pets. They follow their noses and breed instincts too much. Hard headed too.
