Hi, everyone. I've spent a lot of time on the forums, but almost no time in this specific forum. But, it seemed like the right place to come with this question. I inherited an Ithaca M37 riot gun with the 8 shot magazine from my grandfather. My brother is interested in buying it from me, but I can't seem to find any place that can put an accurate value on it. It's at least 30 years old, but I don't believe it's ever been shot. Just taken out of the gun case and cycled by us grandkids. The only place I find any value attributed to them at all is buying them new. Anyone have any idea where I might go to find a fair value for this?
Thanks!

Trade him for something you want, sounds like that gun might have some sentimental value to him? I wouldn't go asking full price for it, unless you and your brother are on bad terms. But back to the original ??? I had my Ithaca M37 valued at around $400-$450 about 3 years ago, it's not a riot gun and it's got a few marks but overall I would rate it at 90%, good luck and check gunbroker.com

Thanks for the numbers.
It's a long story, but there were a group of guns given to the three of us from our grandfather. We drew numbers to see what order we would choose. The draw was such that I got the first and last picks. It meant I got the coveted WWI 1911, but also ended up with the riot gun. The deal we made was that none of us would sell anything without giving the others the first shot at it. I'm not in any hurry to sell it, but he knew I wasn't real interested in keeping it, so he offered to buy it. I told him to just keep it at his place, but he won't do it. He wants to do it the right way, so I was trying to determine a fair value.

Frog's if it's an 8 shot I'll give you 500 for it.

Wish I'd have seen these last night, I would have checked and taken pics. Like I said, I'm not necessarily looking to sell it right now, was just giving him an opportunity to get it in a way he was comfortable with. It will likely be staying in the family in one way or another.
Now, that being said, what's the significance of the fireball stamp? Would it be on the barrel with the rest of the stamping?

Most of the Model 37's carried in Vietnam were standard 6 shots with 18 1/2 inch barrels. Ithaca modified about 1400 to 8 shot with 20 inch barrels for the SEAL teams.

Thanks for the info. I'll definitely have to check that out. This would be a Viet Nam era gun.

I can't give you an accurate guess as to the value of your particular model. I bought mine an old beat up Vietnam era model for $700 taxed. I paid so much due to the history behind my particular model.
It was the private property of a Sergeant who served in the war. He was able to bring it overseas and bring it back. It has all the military stamps and in big letters "LEFT" stamped/carved into the stock. Being a southpaw I couldn't turn this one down.
Another cool thing about the Nam era M37s is the capability of slam-fire. Pull the trigger once and keep pumping out shells.
Obvious gun safety rules need to apply here. I wouldn't slam-fire other than an occasional trip to the range, or the zombie apocalypse.
Cheers~!
