We have a cow that died on our ranch a couple of weeks ago.. Do you think deer tend to avoid areas where there is a dead animal? or is it just part of nature and it doesn't bother them... reason im asking is we have noticed a recent deer decline in that area of the ranch.. We havent seen many coyotes on camera at the location just crows an buzzards..

never noticed it bothering them much. Deer live a rough existence in the wild...they see death all the time. Now if there are predators hanging in the area scavenging the carcass, that could cause issues.

I think noise and ruckuss of the buzzards and the crows are what is keeping them away from the area for now. Predators can also keep them away. But to much new noise and activity is my first guess.

Predators is the problem I think. I shot a pig that dropped in it's tracks first thing opening morning. About 20 minutes later two does came out of the trees right by where he lay and didn't even pay any attention to the pig.

i agree with the predators thing. even though you may not see them on camera, they are around enough that the deer know & will stay away. i don't think "death" bothers them as much, i have game cam pics where a NICE (never saw him again) buck checked out a stinky doe skeleton i tied out.
