I shoot mine with a .17HMR, although shot placement is key. I have never lost one but I shoot them in the ear.

I wouldn't try to shoot a big 300lber with this gun but for the good eaters it works just fine. And is deadly accurate.

Forgive Saltforks lack of knowledge on appropriate hog calibers.

he left out the 30-378 weatherby mag

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Would I be asking too much, if you could list those in order of preference?

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

It was the best I could do off the top of my head!

Please, use any caliber you happen to have around when you see a hog.

Hey Tim, how's the new lease working out for you guys? We just got on a new one a few weeks ago between Glen Rose and Granbury. Starting to get some deer pics, but it's mostly hogs... http://www.texashuntingforum.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/214955/an/0/page/0#Post214955

I agree with Wild_Yote on shot placement, behind the ear. Saw a show this past weekend where a dumbass was using a 45-70, pistol and shot a 700lb+ boar at 35 yards, in the shoulder. He unloaded the gun on the hog then had to use his back-up gun to finish it off. The shield on a hog that size must be exceeding 3". Not a good idea to shoulder shoot'em over 150lbs IMO, the shield gets to thick. I also suggest not using hollow points, not enough penetration. Ballistic tips are far superior. JMO.

Hunting is more to me than Antlers on the wall. It's more about the memories you make, and sharing those memories with friends, and family.

Ive shot them with 243's and 3030. However, my favorite one to shoot them with is a 22. Its about shot placement. Right in the head by the ear. Usually they drop fast, but with no recoil, no levers are actions to work, you can follow up with 2nd 3rd shot fast if you need to.

You don't feel kick when spotlighting. You could probably shoot an elephant gun and not feel it with that much adrenaline. I use a .270 with a neck shot. DRT every time. Scope is very handy on the guns as well. We use SKS and a 30/30 as well.
