Obviously this is a subjective question. My brother is getting married in February and his fiance is getting him a new gun for a wedding gift. I coulda done the research myself but would rather get firsthand feedback from you guys...and I am not the person to ask since I use my 870 as a boat paddle.
Stipulations:
1) Needs to be able to handle 2 3/4 up to 3 1/2 inch shells.
2) No Remington products.
3) Automatic
4) He doesn't have to spend the whole $1200 so if you have a nice gun that you got for half of that then by all means post it up.
Thanks.

Benneli
You can find them on gun broker for that I believe.
I love my berreta auto but you can just abuse a Benneli harder.

SX2 or SX3, literally put thousands of rounds through my SX2 23/4 for dove and 31/2 for ducks. used it in college for competition skeet and trap. doesn't jam like my buddy's SBE2

Whatever fits him but since its a gift that makes it harder.
Problem is you can't return most firearm sales unless you discuss it with a gun shop in advance that she wraps one up and then he can go in and get fitted before he shoots it.
He is your brother, has he tried any of the higher end guns?
I love my Beretta Xtrema2 and would not trade it for a SBE. It fits me so much better than the Benelli did. I have found it more reliable with light loads.

I like my Benelli M-2 but doesn't meet the 3.5 requirement. I think they have an "American Edition" of the SBEII that will get it down into your range. Can't go wrong with a Benelli. A buddy of mine just bought the Winchester SX2. It kicks a bit but so far has been a good gun. I think he only paid $600 new off the shelf because the store was closing them out.

You didn't have to. You busted me fair and square. What goes on the internet stays on the internet forever. You can ask Mike Basik.

Dude...I would wrap up a piece of paper that said pick of your shotgun for 1k.
To many variables to buying someone a gun blind not knowing if they will even like it.
Use this thread for an example.

I have the 3.5" Maxus... without the camo they come in at around 1200 bucks give or take. If you go to bass pro or cabela's you can sign up for their credit card and save 10% which brings it down to around 1100. Browning also has the "Fully Loaded" rebate that refunds you $100 if you buy the ammo at the same retailer at the same time as the firearm purchase... so there's another 100 bucks down. Plus the gun is awesome!

Cable ... I still have a black Extrema 3-1/2" in excellent shape that I'd let your brother have for $750 if interested. The only thing not original on it is the $80 "Uncle Mike's" swivel magazine cap and sling. Has the hard case, tubes, manual, and the factory mag cap as well.
Cappy ... At my side for thirteen years, in my heart forever.

SX3. Love it. Had it in a fine sandy peanut field hunting geese and never locked up. Kept pushing the 3 1/2 inch loads through with not a prob. Used it for dove and never failed to function. You can get the synthetic black for $800-900 or go for the camo version at $1100. Great gun

Use this thread for an example. There is a misconception here...He is going to pick out the gun himself and she is going to buy it for him He just wanted to know what some of you guys thought. Thanks for all the feedback. Def gonna tell him to look at the Win SX2, Venci and Maxus.

If that is the case I would look at the SBEII, Maxus, Xtrema and SX3. Depending on which one feels best will dictate which one to buy. I don't think they make a 3.5" chamber on the Vinci yet but they have talked about it coming.

I have a SBE II and it isn't as bulletproof as the commercials lead you to believe, it will jam and it kicks way harder than the extrema II. But...... I like the way the benelli points though.

Beretta and don't look back. SBE doesn't compare. The Beretta shots 7/8 dove load.

SBE or Xtrema. Hard to wrong. You just have to choose what fits you best. In my case, the Xtrema2 fits near perfect right out of the box. Was not the case with the SBE. That was all I needed to make a decision. Just have to shoulder the gun to see what fits. Lots of new guns out there that are probably good, but they just haven't proved themselves as well as these two.
I think Cappy has a great deal on a great gun. But, if it doesn't fit, it isn't your gun.
