This might sounds like a stupid question but I was wondering is a 17hmr louder than a .22?

Wigeon said it well, I was surprised how loud mine was when I first fired it. Not saying it's super loud just caught me off guard.

I was the exact same way. I guess I expected it to be quieter than a 22 for some reason.

Do not buy a .17hmr semi auto of any brand. There are still a few floating around but ALL firearms companies that produced them have discontinued making them and recalled them. Eventually they will blow up due to the varience in pressures in the .17hmr ammo lots. There is only one company that actually loads .17hmr for everyone and they have ral pressure problems. That said the bolt actions are all safe and a blast to shoot The pressure variations don't effect them.

+1 I love shooting my .17 HMR. It tears those coons up in fine style rifle

I just purchased a 17HMR and it is a blast to shoot. If I was coon hunting I would carry my 22mag. Just my opinion.

I still haven't killed anything with mine yet! I shot a bunch of water bottles over the weekend with some great damage but that's it.

Went prairie dog hunting with mine last May, worked great. The wind is it's only enemy.

I think Volquartsen still makes one. I know Alexander Arms just came out with an AR platform 17HMR. I would suspect that if Bill Alexander builds it, it will be safe. Even at $1,100, that one will be my next rimfire for sure!

I go to Bone Daddy's for the burgers....yeah, that's why.
