Case of beer riding on this bet. I say a BATF license is required to buy/own a silencer for hunting. My buddy said this law was changed and anyone can now own one without BATF approval.
Who is correct?
coffee spelled backwards is eeffoc. I don't give eeffoc until I have my morning coffee.

You are. Now, I'm not sure about the "BATF" part, but I do know you have to have some kind of license. My nephew builds his own AR's and has the suppressers. He had to have a license before he could buy one, which is nothing more than filling out some paper work and getting it approved. Gettin one could be as less than a couple months up to 6 months. Once he got approved, he can buy them anytime he wants.

I believe anyone can own IF your local sheriff signs-off his approval. However, without actually knowing your sheriff, it could prove hard to get that signature.

All of you are wrong. There is no license. You do however have to have the $200 tax stamp and go through the BATF background checks. You can set up a trust that will actually own the supressor and then you don't have to have a CLEO sign off on it or you can do it in your own name and try to get a CLEO to sign off on it. Some will do it, some wont.

In addition to that the $200 tax is on a per device basis. You can move it around n different guns you own but you have to have the tax stamo for each CAN if you have more than one.

Who is correct? It's also against the law to use a silencer on any "GAME" Animal. (Hogs are not game animals)
