All the time someone posts a pic of a buck asking "age and score" I know how to and do score all the deer that I kill but just looking at a picture I can only give a rough estimate. Most people that post a reply will guess to the exact 1/8
Do people really think they can score a deer that well from a picture and is there something I am missing that makes it that easy?

I think when you see guesses that include fractions of an inch they are just trying to see how close they can get to the actual score of the animal. There are a couple of guys on here that if you give them a few good pictures they they will usually be within a inch or two 90% of the time.

A guess maybe, but an educated guess. Same as guessing deer on the hoof, with the same anatomical guidelines for reference. Now including the 1/8's...well, lets just say that like when on the hoof, I personally feel better about giving a range...

I can usually gauge them within about 5 or 10 points but I always try to underestimate. That way if I shoot one I'm not disappointed by ground shrinkage. A few points over my estimation is always a welcomed surprise.

the fraction of an inch is for bragging rights should the person get the exact score. Some folks on here are good at their guestimations.

I think the people that put 1/8's of an inch in there are not actually being serious.
The pictures that crack me up are people being positive of how old a deer is by seeing one crappy picture of its head after the deer is dead.

I'd say both of those are pretty good guesses.
My wife's only thing is it can't stare at her when she is eating or sleeping!

125 15/16"...you look to be about 16 yrs old and might way 150lb soaking wet.. throw a paint can in there and it's easier to judge the score.

This is the wrong section to ask for a score guess lol I don't remember the exact 1/8s but he grossed 123 and netted 116. The broke brow tine cost him 10inches

I was thinking 125. It's really no that hard if you use the 13"-15" rule from ear to ear and just add it up in your head.

I agree, a rough estimate is all we can get from a pic
