Stopped by the gun store today and picked up a new Marlin XS7-SS .First time I have ever really looked at a Marlin it seemed like the functions were a combo of rems and savage in one gun.The gunsmith showed me some targets from three different cal out of the box .All were good tight groups .Just might have to put a 308 on a Boyds stock and give it a try.I really liked the trigger and its adjustable .Any pros or cons ??? They're easily sub-moa rifles. Even my lever-action Marlin shoots .5 inch groups. The stock on the bolt guns feels a little to light to absorb decent recoil so a wood stock is probably a good idea.

I have two a .270 & 7-08. For the price they can't be beat. The only negatives I have read on the Marlin owner forum is: blueing isn't the greatest, some complain about only having a 2 position safety which doesn't bother me at all, and a few Marlins have had bad barrels which Marlin replaced under warranty. I love the triggers so much that I hate my other rifles triggers now. The stock is o.k. in my opinion but I do prefer the looks of the camo stock over the black, I was going to buy the Boyd's stock but some said the recoil pad on them were junk and they weren't pillar bedded. These rifles are light and I do notice the recoil but like all rifles you never feel it when shooting at an animal. You might just like the rifle so much that you end up buying another caliber, that's what happened to me. If I could find a .243 camo I would own three Marlin X series. What did you pay if you don't mind me asking?

I just got back from a small gun shop here in town and ordered a xs7 308 in ss and it will be here tommarrow .Drive out was 420 bucks.I just ordered me a Boyds thumb hole stock for it .I have been reading for two days on the interent and havent heard one bad word about the guns.Im excited to build this gun and see for myself.Always had rems but this has all the functions of rem and savage in one gun.Im ready to get it together and shoot.I love the trigger.Darrell

I just got one in .243. Smooth action and very nice trigger. Small groups even with factory ammo.

Just went and got my rifle 24 hrs and its here looks great .Now just need my Boyds to get here so I can put it together.I wish they made it in ss in 25 06 and I would be orderin another gun.,LOL Darrell

Ordered my Boyds stock on monday and thursday it was here .Took off the factory stock and she dropped right in torque to 45 lbs.Installed scope.Bought some cheap federal ammo 185 grain all they had at Wally world 12 bucks.Took two shots and she was dailed in .Shot 5 more and a nickel covered the holes.Im more than happy with price and performance.I think I got me a keeper.The trigger was set at 3 and with the turn of a wrench got it to 2.5 and smooth as silk.Darrell

I have one in 25-06 and these Marlins are the best value out there. There are better rifles, but the Marlin is close in accuracy to much more expensive rifles. Good luck!

By the way, which Boyd stock model did you order and how much was the stock if you don't mind me asking?

Just looked at there website and they do. XL7S comes in 25.06 30.06 and 270.

I have a Marlin in a 25-06 but it is not a SS model. It shoots great and I really wish Marlin would chamber it in a .223 & 22-250.
