Hey Skinny, was that the deer I saw in the back of a pickup at Taco Casa in Vernon? I walked over and checked it out, nice buck. Not sure. I did not shot it. Other member on the lease did. But we have a few from the Dallas area.

I hunted motley this pass weekend and had 2 8 point bucks chase a doe around, so I would say the pre-rut is on. I would agree that mid next week looks to be a good estimate for full rut. Will be headed back out the 19-22 hope to see something good.

Hunted for the last 3 days and did not see any real rutting activity. Saw lots of does most with no bucks attached. Had an eight pt come in with two does but he ate at the feeder and they left without him. I still think they are a week or two away in my area anyway.

Been hunting since thusday morning and have not seen alot of rut activity going on. I saw a couple of bucks walk right by a doe and never attempted to chase. I thought with this cold front the deer would really start to move. So whats ya'lls opinion, does this moon and weather have them screwed up or is the rut over.

I also hunted the whole weekend and saw about as much activity as you. I think we're on the backside of the rut now (lock down). I watched a younger buck breed a doe on Friday evening. I also think that the buck to doe ratio (at least in my part of the panhandle) is way out of balance. Too many does, no competition, and the bigger boys don't have to cruise for does during shooting hours. They just seem to wait for the does to come to them. The buck I watched breeding the doe was a young dink and should have been afraid of his own shadow. Nope, even the dinks get chicks all to themselves.

Hunted all weekend long and saw a bunch of different bucks both small and large. Also saw a couple of bucks we'd never seen before. Took a drive thru the lease and around some wheat fields after our hunts and saw a lot of bucks locked down with does. My belief is that the rut was definitely at its peak this last week. It will be interesting to see what shows up this next weekend. We have about a 1:1 buck to doe ratio on our lease. I saw more good sized bucks with my eyes over the weekend than I had all year long to this point.
