I am just getting into the ring of duck hunting. I have been an avid deer hunter for years, specifically archery. I tagged out in two days this year and have decided that I am going to tag along on some duck hunts with some of my coaching buddies. I have an older shotgun so I have decided to get a newer one. I know my way around rifles and bows but am not really savvy on the shotguns. I had found a model that fit my budget, Stoeger M2000 and liked the feel and the smooth action of the gun. I was about to buy it today but I took one last look at the barrel and it said turkey on the side. Not knowing the difference between a turkey gun and a waterfowl gun I didn't make the purchase, can somebody clue me in as to what to look for? Thanks

Does it use choke tubes? If so buy a improved cylinder choke to go in it, a turkey choke would be way too resticted for steel shot. I'm thinking it may have a short barrel, 24". That may be why they call it a turkey gun.

There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

It has a 28" barrel and comes with 5 different chokes, IC, M, IM, XF and C.

I have a M2000. I think the Turkey barrel is 26" compared to the 28" on the waterfowl. I don't know if the shorter barrel makes that much difference, but the turkey choke that came with mine is a 1" extention. Had one problem with it jamming during dove season, but I cleaned it and haven't had anymore problems. I shot 3" #2 and #4's. Hunted twice with it and have 7 ducks.
If your still intrested in on, Dick's has them for $400 on sale.
Academy has them for $499. and may match the price.

Umm, I believe the gun is made in Turkey. There are several folks on here with the M2000.

It says "Turkey" on the barrel because it is "MADE IN TURKEY".
Go find you a Beretta 390 for $500. You will be way better off.

I got a Benelli Supernova APG 26" New in Box for $335 on gunbroker.com. Lucked out really, I figured someone would run up the bid, but it ended on Labor Day weekend and I guess everybody was too busy to bid. It's a pump action and solid as a rock. Flawless through a grueling dove season... rain, mud, dust, you name it. My 2cents

Can't say anything about a Stoeger, never hunted one.

Benellis are great as well as the Remington pump guns. I was at Cabelas in Ft. Worth and they had some pre-owned guns on the rack that might fit the bill. Another place to look if you have time is jaquas.com. They will have to ship it to a TX dealer for you, but sometimes you can save enough to make it worth your time. Good luck!

Go for a Benelli Nova. You can find a lightly used one for a good price at Cabela's or wherever. They take the 3 1/2" shells and will last through thick and thin. Best pump I've ever owned.
