Anyone use a silencer on their atv? I am thinking about putting one on my bruins and my polaris ranger.

I just purchased a Benz silent rider exhaust for my 450 Grizzly:

http://www.atvsilencer.com/

When you are sitting on the atv riding it, it sounds about 10% quieter (barely noticeable). However, to an observer on the ground the noise is at least 50% reduced - very noticeable improvement.

Power off idle to mid range is unaffected (possibly improved). Top end before the exhaust was 53, now it will do 49mph (not a big deal, don't ever ride that fast...)

Is it worth it? I don't know yet. I'm trying to give it a try and see, but mostly what I've seen is that instead of seeing deer trotting away from the ATV at the edges of my vision, I'm seemingly surprising the deer by getting closer to them, which in turn causes them to bolt in terror from close in.

I'm leaning towards taking it back off...

David

Ya that is the only reason I was thinking about adding them. To try and not spook the deer to bad when going to the stand. I park several hundred yards away and walk in but still. Going to have to think on this a little more. Thanks

Put one on my 04 ranger a few years back. It does cut the exhaust noise a good bit, but like others said, does nothing for engine noise in the cab. Its not like you're in stealth mode. Decent product I'd buy again, relatively easy to mount, but not the miracle cure I'd hoped for...

A buddy of mine has a Benz silencer on his 350 rancher. It quitens the exhaust noise but you can still hear the engine noise. the engine noise isn't as oud as the exhaust.

I have a Benz on my 450 Rhino and it made it a lot quiter. If you want no noise at all get a golf cart. Last trip I rode my Rhino within 40 yards behind my hunting buddie's blind to get something out of the truck and he never knew I was there.

I put one on my Honda 250 4 wheeler. The best comparison I can make to noise reduction is the difference between a 200hp 2-stroke outboard and a 200hp 4-stroke outboard....if that makes sense.

Can someone explain why atv's have to be so loud with the exhaust? My Yamaha Grizzly 660 is terrible !!! Don't the manufacturers know how to make decent mufflers?
