Seen a small 8 opening morning and that was it. Deer not coming to feeder to many acorns. Didn't see any rut activity. Anyone having luck in Jack county? bang

Me either...I've got a 4 day weekend coming up this weekend though and hope to get one of these 2. Not sure if I want wider or higher - think I like the tall guy though. He's got some really nice G2s. These aren't massive deer but they'll do for me. OF course first they have to show in DAYLIGHT...hoping for the rut to kickoff. I do think the bottom 8 was seen opening morning at the blind next to mine but the hunter just wants a doe this year so he got a walk.

This is my first year on this place in Jack County north of Bryson.

My place is probably less than 5 miles from the Jack County line. Saw several does and a few young bucks. A bit of chasing going on and lots of shots all around me.

By this weekend they ought to really be after the does.

We hunt about 8 miles down 148. We saw a few does, a total of 5 bucks in 3 hunts. Saw one buck chasing a doe. Nothing is hitting the feeders. My brother did manage to take a nice 3.5 year old 15.5 inch wide 8. It wasnt the buck he wanted but still a nice buck. It was a case of mistaken identity as he was moving when identified him. We heard a few shots. Most sounded like pistol or shotgun rounds..

I hunt just off 1191 north of Bryson and have seen 5 does and 1 spike. The deer are not coming to my feeders at all. camera had 120 pics and only about 10 pics of deer the rest were of birds eating the corn.

I am hunting Jack County for my first time this season after hunting in Val Verde County. My opening weekend experience was like that of most others from what I can tell. Saw deer Saturday morning and then not a deer the next three hunts. What I am hoping for is some encouragement from you Jack County veterans. It will get better right? texas

No veteran by any means but as soon as the acorns disappear then they will eat the sprouting corn

sprouting corn rofl

It will be a buffet line in a few weeks at the feeders. Never seen so many acorns in about 10-12 years of hunting out that way.

OMG you could make a rug out of all the acorns. Give it about 2 or 3 weeks and the deer will be back. Now if they come out during the day is another question.

Will the rut be over by then?

Hunted Jack County my whole life and I say yes the rut will be over by then. I cant think of a time the acorns were this bad or good, depending on how you look at it. From what Ive seen the doe arent far from "standing" and when this happens good luck finding a buck in the daylight that is not bedded next to a doe. In a couple weeks the bucks will come back to feeders and have busted tines. I killed a 8 opening weekend that had nothing else on his mind but the doe in front of him. I say get them this weekend or it may be tuff for a few weeks. No expert but this is what I think.

yep ive been hunting Jack county for the last 8 years and this seems to be our best year yet, lots of big 8s on camera and even 1 big 12. and i would have to agree with CMC this is the weekend to be in the woods. from what i saw last weekend the rut should be in full swing so im heading out tomorrow and i can give an update when i get back sunday. Good luck to every one this weekend! here is a few pics from this year.
