I kinda think he's a old buck, wide eyes, drooping skin, long skinny nose. He is not young I will bet money on that (less than 4.5 being young). Bash me if you want but we'll see. Past his prime.

If he just shot it as a "meat" hunter or without permission then shame on him!

Hard to tell much about a deer by horns alone. I guess my question is: Did he have permission to be in your stand and what advice did you give him? confused2

I just want to know if the guy was told he could hunt in the stand and if there are any rules that would keep him from killing a buck that size.

If he had permission to hunt in your blind then and he liked him then great buck...but if he did not have permission then is he an ex-lease member?

Ditto on if he followed the rules of the lease and he liked the buck. More power to him.
Sooooooo......how long we have to wait on the story?

I think if he had his own stands then he should have been in it. But I also know when a new guy comes on to a lease that has had members on it for a while then he gets hosed on where he can hunt usually. With that being said depends on what the rules were. But even with rules in place I would not hunt out of someone elses stand without there permission. Were you on the lease and hunting in another location as well? Several factors here that would determine how a feel about it.

If he's an older buck and he's allowed to hunt your stand, then no big deal....probably past his prime anyway. If he's one y'all should let walk and/or he doesn't have permission, then I'd have a problem with it. Just depends on how y'all run your lease.

Been on both....where everyone kind of shares and where everyone sticks to their own spot. Prefer the sharing kind, but everyone always hunts their own stuff the first few weeks of the season.

Didn't somoeone shoot a nice one out of your stand last year too?

Guys & Girls, true you can't tell by the color but if you have ever been to or seen anything about aging whitetails then you know as they age they get wrinkles between the ear & head (much like people). Granted that isn't the best picture to use for judging though. I can tell that the person holding the antlers has sausage fingers though and shot out on opening weekend! trout

Did he break any lease rules? Personally, I'd shoot a doe before I shot that buck but maybe it's the best he's ever seen to shoot. Doubt it but what's the whole story?

X2 but in some areas you can tell by the color of the forehead on some bucks as they get older and mature. The forehead darkens to look almost like a mule deer in the face. This comes as the rub and signpost and mark their territories. Staining I would say comes from tree sap and scent from the buck. But every area is different. You can in time start to age them somewhat but it is only part of the aging from site. You have to have an age structure to be able to tell though. That buck just looks young with a skinny face. As many have said I find that gray hair is not going to tell you much on a buck.
