Well the water is about waist deep and nothing to hide in where the ducks want to be. Plenty of cover on the bank but its to far of a shot until the lilly pads die. The place is pretty big so we like to move spots based on the wind and where the ducks are.

I was thinking of making a floating type blind that is portable. My idea was to make something out of PVC that is square and can attach brush from the bank to it. On the bottom I was going to attach the noodles the kids use in pools to float it.

I was going to make it just tall enough so I can sit on a bucket and have some cover around me and overhead. Probably big enough for three people.

Anybody tried this? Any suggestions? thanks for the help in advance.

You want to use those kiddy float noodles to float a blind, 3 men, and your gear? Take a towel.

recommend you try this first . .
find some cane or switch back (? that tall broad leafed stuff growing along side the road).
cut a big bundle of it and when you get to the pond, stick it in the bottom to form a blind around your bucket. (break the cane off first so its the correct lenght when your sitting down and not blocking your shot when you stand up.

I think you'll go nuts trying keep something floating around you from tipping over or always being in the wrong position. Certainly wouldnt tolerate any wind.

not float people. float the blind around me. So it would just be used to to hold cover basically. It would hold no weight other than what I tie to it. we would sit on the bottom of the tank on buckets which is what we normally do.

If it's shallow enough to sit on buckets, I'd just shoot a few t-posts in the mud and brush it up from there. Maybe some chicken wire and sticks.

The thought crossed my mind but never tried it. Use to fart with T post and wire and all that BS. Now I just stop on the side of the road, use a sharp machete, and cut a truck load full of brush at a sharp angle. Push it in the ground around where you are going to sit. 2-3 diff types of brush will help it blind in better.

T ... just a suggestion to consider. When you cut brush, willows etc at a sharp angle so you can stick them in the ground easily, you are also leaving behind just as many "Punji sticks" where you did the cutting. They can inflict serious injury to a hunter and even more likely and worse to their dawgs.

If and when I want to cut brush, saplings, etc for cover, I always try to cut it all square and flush with the gound. You can always sharpen the cut off end with your machette when you're ready to install them. In the 1970s I saw a German Shorthair Pointer IMPALED on a stand of 45 degree cut willows saplings that were 12" high and still very sharp almost a year after being cut. He survived, but only through a lot of surgical repairs.

be a better caller and improve your decoy spread. Get rid of any spinning wing decoys as well. the birds look at them but quickly learn that it means loud noises and sore feathers.

Nope, bad idea. Just cut some brush (from the area you are hunting so it looks natural) and stick it in the mud. The more natural the better. Square rhymes with flare......and it does not take long for ducks to shy away from square blinds.

why not use your machete to cut out the lily pads?? just cut em a little under the water and make yourself a good landing hole. then set up on the bank.

like it was said, if you put something out in the water that is not usually there or natural, the ducks will quickly learn and be gone.

Easy... just put a big @$$ scarecrow out there and hunt where you normally hunt on the other side.
