Cabelas had a good deal on Barnes Tac-X bullets (buy one get one free). I picked up some 110g Barnes in .277 dia. for my 270Win. I really didn't need them but for about $31/100, I couldn't resist! That's about the same price as Sierra's, so what the heck. I have checked and from everything I have read, the Tac-X's are the same bullet as the TSX's, just a different name due to the Tac's having to go through some additional testing or something to get the Mil/LE name on it.
The question is, does any one here use this combo, if so, what loads have worked out for you if any. I have Varget, I4064, RL15, and RL17 powders. I also have CCI 200LR, Remington LR primers, and some Win LR primers. According to the Barnes website, they recommend both 4350's and Ramshot Hunter with a Fed GM210M primer for the 110 and 120 tsx's. I don't chrony any loads, I'm looking for accuracy to be used either on deer or hogs. I will be shooting it out of a Rem 700BDL, no modification other than lightening the trigger a little. Any and all help is much appreciated.

I loaded some 90 grain hp's for my 270. I used H-380. Im sure it wasnt the best powder, but they shot tight groups(load density was low)

I tried H4350 with the 110 TTSX in my Sako 85 finlight I wasn't ever able to get really great, consistent groups I would get 3 toughing and then a flyer
Loaded per Barnes specs for COAL, played with varying seating depths.. etc..
Barnes data is on the hot side btw..
I used the same bullet and killed deer and hogs out 250 yards going only 2700 FPS, so, they don't need to be screaming fast (top load is near 3400 FPS) to be highly efffective

58 grns of H4350, cci primers, seated .050 off the lands of a ruger m77 worked real good for me. Sub moa groups and should be plenty fast.

Well, I decided to load up some RL17 in 1gr increments from 54-58g. I used Barnes data sheet to get the starting COAL of 3.240". I hope to get to the range sometime this week and see how they shoot. Since there isn't a much data on this load out there, I just took some 4350 loads and dropped down on the starting load just to be safe (this lot of RL17 seems a little hot). Guess we will see how it goes.....

I went out and shot these with a little surprise. I naturally started at the bottom and went up, checking for pressure signs with each load. Accuracy was around 2-2 1/2" as worked up on the first 3 loads, so I thought OK not the right powder, or seating depth. On the next load (57g) it shrunk some, went to the last load, and got a group a little over 1", no I didn't measure but according to the target boxes that is what it was. I was surprised at this, this rifle normally likes middle of the road loads not pushing the max. I looked hard for any pressure signs but found none. Again that was a surprise because this rifle had a sticky bolt, with a medium charge of this lot of RL17! I can't find any reference as to what the recommended max charge of RL17 is for this load so I used load data for H4350 and a 110g bullet. I don't like pushing the envelope, but now I am going to have to debate whether to go a little higher or not. If I do it won't be much, I may just creep up by 2 to 3 gr increments and see how that goes..... Or I might just stay with that load and play with seating depth some.....

From my experience barnes bullets like to be moving. If you cant find a load for that caliber and bullet, then I would do like you are saying, starte with the min of a different bullet of the same weight and work up slowly and cautiously. Good luck, hope it all works out for you.
ALso barnes like a clean barrel from my experience.

never have, but Federal Premium loads a new hyper velocity .270 load that shoots a 110 gr. TSX @ 3400 fps! But the 110 gr bullets do tend to go to sleep faster since the BC is so low and the bullets are so light. They'd still be great deer/hog/javalena rounds.

I sent you a PM with pressure calculations on your loads from one of the interior ballistics programs I use sometimes.

I sent you a PM with pressure calculations on your loads from one of the interior ballistics programs I use sometimes. This is an honest question, not doubting. You have a program that will calculate chamber presure? Does it work for multible calibers, take into acount different powders and bullets? Sounds neat I would like to hear more about it. Sorry dont mean to hijack. matt

"I may just creep up by 2 to 3 gr increments" should have read .2 to.3 gr increments.
Also, this was for MY rifle, work up loads for your own as to avoid any problems with pressure!
kmon, PM'd you back. Thanks!

The program I use is called Quickloads and is very helpful especially for wildcats where no data is available. It alsop does a creditable job of comparing different powders for use in various cartridge/bullet combinations, even down to the internal balistics, change of eating depth on pressures etc Works with standard calibers also. It has quite an extensive database of bullets, powders. It also comes with the warnings of trust a published reloading source etc. Link to the tool is below. http://www.neconos.com/details3.htmthings it cannot take into effect is variations in the firearms themelves Saami min chamber or max chamber dimensions for example. I have loaded for instance 2 7mmSTX Remington 700s that with factory loads the velocith difference was 200fps. Varisstions in brass, between different manufactures I have seen up to 10% difference in case volume.
