With that said I got my 1st deer last night I got out there about 2 pm to hunt the afternoon saw not a thing till about 6 then 2 fawns came out smaller than my knees then just before it was too dark to shoot mom came out and she is the one I picked out in the past few days. I took aim and stopped and got a little worried do I remember where I need to shoot I felt like an hour for me to think about it BUT it was maybe 2 min. I aimed one more time and shot. I saw her jump up then ran off I took my hearing protectors off and heard it crash right down a small hill I called the land owner and asked how long do I wait (he is 75 and hunted all his life) he asked any blood I told him no none I could find then he asked about the crash I told him he then told to go down right now she is dead. I looked for her and found her about 40 yards from where she was hit. I hit her about 1 in in front of where I aimed. I had to used the land owners rifle a 243 with scope ( (Here comes the dogging out) (I have not fired it before the shot at her) Where I hit did make hamburger out of her hart and lungs I looked at them as I was cleaning her by the way I loved his rifle.
1st are the 2 fawns

then the doe I got

What I would like to know is how big is she compared to others (I think she is smaller) but others told me she is big is she?

Why did I not find a blood trail?

and did I hit where I needed to

No matter what anyone say I do know I am very happy with her being my 1st deer it was fun and I do mean the whole thing no just the shooting. clap

sometimes a 243 does not blow thru both sides to leave a good blood trail, sounds like you made a good shot and congrats on your first

Nice doe, use a ballistic tip if you want a blood trail.

Congrats...shot placement is a little high and little too far back. Pull the shot in a little tighter to the shoulder and down a few inches.

When the chest cavity fills with blood it won't spill out if the shot is too high.
