Are you using an electric call, or mouth calls? If your in the tripod and usin mouth calls with a decoy on the ground they will know when they see it thats not where the sounds coming from. Yotes are way smarter than alot of people think. The only way I would suggest using the tripod is with an electronic call and the decoy out a ways. If using mouth calls I would stay on the ground and leave the decoy out becuase if you got close that will pinpoint your location, and if you have it away from you then your probably gonna have weary yote that seeing movement in one spot and the the noise in another. If your on the ground remember that the shade is your friend, dont get where you can be skylined, and watch your downwind side. Good Luck.

well got shut out this weekend... went out 3 times, friday morning, evening, and sat during mid day. i sat on the ground in shade by cedar trees, used mouth calls. i was setting the critter about 20 yds from me, hunting in kinda close usually see about 50 to 75, is that too close? only one spot on the lease where you can see a ways and i want to use that for deer hunting. will hunting coyote in that spot scare off the deer?

I've been putting my foxpro and decoy about 50 yards upwind of where I sit and its been working pretty good. As far as scaring off the deer I say it doesnt but I'm sure some will argue otherwise.

so how long and how loud do you recommend operating the electric calls? do you keep em on till one shows up, run it in spurts, do you keep running it when one shows? got a bunch on my place, and really wanna give it a try this weekend.
