im thinking about doin some coyote hunting this weekend since i already took a buck during bow season. I know there are alot of coyotes on my lease but have never hunted them before. Can i call them in if im in a tripod stand? or do i need to be on the ground? also, about what times in the morning/evening do you start calling?

you can stand hunt them. early mornings and nights are when i have the best luck. if you day hunt ide suggest full camo head to toe and sit in some brush. aswell as try amd find a skunk to use as cover scent

Are you using an electric call, or mouth calls? If your in the tripod and usin mouth calls with a decoy on the ground they will know when they see it thats not where the sounds coming from. Yotes are way smarter than alot of people think. The only way I would suggest using the tripod is with an electronic call and the decoy out a ways. If using mouth calls I would stay on the ground and leave the decoy out becuase if you got close that will pinpoint your location, and if you have it away from you then your probably gonna have weary yote that seeing movement in one spot and the the noise in another. If your on the ground remember that the shade is your friend, dont get where you can be skylined, and watch your downwind side. Good Luck.

well got shut out this weekend... went out 3 times, friday morning, evening, and sat during mid day. i sat on the ground in shade by cedar trees, used mouth calls. i was setting the critter about 20 yds from me, hunting in kinda close usually see about 50 to 75, is that too close? only one spot on the lease where you can see a ways and i want to use that for deer hunting. will hunting coyote in that spot scare off the deer?

I've been putting my foxpro and decoy about 50 yards upwind of where I sit and its been working pretty good. As far as scaring off the deer I say it doesnt but I'm sure some will argue otherwise.

i called a few weeks ago around 10am, right out in a open field. walked into the treeline/woods after i called and two bucks were not 30-40 yards into the trees. they had to have been less than 80 yards from the caller when it was blaring

so how long and how loud do you recommend operating the electric calls? do you keep em on till one shows up, run it in spurts, do you keep running it when one shows? got a bunch on my place, and really wanna give it a try this weekend.

I run mine in spurts at a low volume for first 5 to 10 minutes. Then a little louder in spurts etc. I have heard of leaving it on working well to. The volume and the wind will be your biggest problems.

Anyone can own a fancy gun but can you shoot it ?

start out on a lower volume, there might be animals close to you when you start and you might scare them off. i will vary the volume up and down after that. i have had success running the call constantly for 10 minutes, and also running it a couple, stopping for a couple, then running a couple over and over. it all depends on the terrain you are hunting, heavily wooded is definitely different than wide open fields

Try out varmitals.com He has lots fo calls you can load on a MP3 player and make your own caller. Or just load up the files. He has good info.
