Got to the stand at 6am. Setup the decoy, got setup in the stand, had a great sunrise. Started grunting and rattling at about 7:45. Stayed till 10:30, NO DEER. Went back at 3 same story, left at dark.
I talked to some other hunters in Jacksboro and they were having the some problem, NO DEER.
This is 3 years in a row that I haven't seen deer on the first day. But the season is long and a bad day of hunting is better than a good day at work.

Just talked to a guy who hunts about 2 miles from me. He is having the same problem. Looks like the deer don't like sun light.

The acorns make early season really rough

Same here. Very slow I hunt down the road from BigJim and we saw a few deer. Had nothing to do with feeders. My son a saw a nice shooter but couldnt stop him for a shot. My brother took a nice buck he wasnt the one he thought he was when he shot. 16 inch wide 8 point but he was a little disapointed with the ground shrinkage. I saw one doe being chased by a buck. His rack was tall thats all I could tell they were 200 yds off and moving pretty fast. My brother also shot a nice Bobcat. 5 of us hunted stands opening day and Sun morning for a total of 15 hunts. The group saw 4 bucks, 8 does. No hogs, no turkeys and they werent in the feeders...

I'll be heading out on the 11th. I have a buddy of mine who hunts around Heneritta and is seeing deer all day. I may be heading up his way on the 11th.

There was one shooter buck saw on my place north of Bryson opening moring and a few other younger bucks. Have some decent ones showing on the cameras too. All I saw was a 4 pointer and does.
Went to my place in Young County too and didn't see anything there Sunday morning.
Have a 4 day weekend coming up this weekend - I hope the rut is starting.

We have had rain lately in north Texas. Maybe when it dries out and cools down, the does will move more. When the rut kicks in, just hunt the does. Bucks should be around.LOL
